In my 55g AGA sump. What can I get at HD or Lowes to suspend the socks. Below is the pic of how they look. Thanks!

A simple way is to buy a piece of plexi glass slightly wider then your tank, drill a hole large enough for the sock to fit through, but not wider then the plastic collar. Then slide the sock in, place the drain tubing into it and place the plexi glass across your sump...Voila, cheap and easy mount

That's what I want to do..Thanks!!!

What type of drill bit will cut plexi glass big enough for a 4" sock???

That looks bigger than a 4" sock! I used a 17" tall piece of 4" PVC pipe to hold mine for a while, I slipped the sock into the pipe and cut several holes on the bottom to let the water out. Then later on I cut out a sock holder from acrylic and used it for a while. It can be mounted to the side of the sump. Is the sump acrylic or glass? I can take a pic for you if you are interested in it.

A hole saw. Though you may have to hunt for one with a large enough diameter. A RotoZip(tm) style cutter will do it too. Or just saw a U shape from the side with a saber/jig saw and slide the sock in.

thats only works if you use a propane torch and heat up the plexi and bend it down so it sits a few inches below the top of the tank OR your house will flood when the sock gets dirty.

I took some plexi tonight and made a nice wrap around the tanks lip holder and used a dremel to cut the hole. took about 1 hour

order a tunze filter sock holder for DIY sumps. just released.

reef builders or www. glassbox-design.com i cant remember which.

yes... if you find yourself buying tools , blades, bits, materials... I believe CPR makes a holder for both size socks . The 4" sells for about $29. clamps to the side of any tank. stays put. holds the sock and the drain pipe, and most importantly... holds the sock about 1.5" below the rim. This is critical because there will be times when it will overflow. If it is sitting even with the top edge... you will have a mess or maybe even a tank crash.

sorry, i dont mean to hijack this thread, but are your drains above or below the water line in the sump/in the filter sock?? if so, how many inches?

Drains are way above the waterline. I have 1.25" plastic tubing connected to the PVC that runs straight into the sock. The drains are about 5" above the water line.
