How to Prep for a Power Outage

Thank you all for your posts! I finished moving everything over to my 150 tall tonight and I am exhausted. After 6 hours of acclimating all my live rock, corals, fish, and inverts it is time to sit back with a glass of wine and watch the news. I am hoping Sandy is not going to be as bad but now everything is in just one tank I am a little less worried. I have access to an UPS if the power goes out and from information I have gathered from every one water circulation is priority then temperature. So I will keep my main pump on and wrap my tank in blankets to keep it warm. This prep plan should keep me going for 6-12 hours. However everyone on the far East Coast, New Jersey, New York City, Eastern PA and anyone else Sandy is gonna hit hard fingers crossed and prayers are said tonight for you all.

If all you're looking to do is a heater for the tank and a single small circulation pump, yeah that generator will work. Don't even think about plugging anything with electronics into it though ;)
 
Well no generators were to be found in all of Rome and Utica, tried Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply, Walmart. Nothing. One of the stores did say that they had some drive up from New Jersey to look for a generator though! I did find an inverter that I can plug into my cigarette lighter of my vehicle and I got a full tank of gas tonight. So if it comes down to bad I will plug into the Jeep. The wind is blowing outside but so far so good, power still on cable and internet still good.
 
Our power was out for a couple of hours, but it's back on now. We left the extension cords in place and the candles handy. It could go out again any minute. Gary, what are you doing for your tank if the power has been out there? And was "Tuesday" a typo?

I just got some of these 3 for about $60 :-) thankfully we did not lose power..
