How to stop sps from encrusting?

I have some sps like montipora digitata and acropora millipora and for some reason they wont grow stalks. They just keep on encrusting on my rock. I was wondering if theres a reason why this is happening?

I say dont worry about it. It will lay down a good foundation, then take off.

You cant have a tall tree without strong roots.

how close above are they to the surface of the water.
you might want to lower them down couple of inches. some of mine was doing the same thing so i kind of lowered them and after 5 months i have branches now.
