How to take clam off of rock?

I have a maxima clam that i put in my tank near the top on some rocks, it attached, and now i want to move it. I have read about not damaging the foot and everything. I dont think that the foot is attached, the only thing that is attached are these two see through stands. the large white thing that i see under him sometimes isnt attached. So, i am wondering what the best way, if possible, to take him off would be.

If you can remove the rock from the tank with the clam attached it is easy to remove him. All you have to do is lift the clam up a little so you can see under it. When you do this you should see some white colored tendon looking things attached to the rock. These are the byssal threads. All you have to do is cut them with a knife or scrape them off the rock as close to the rock as possible. I have done this multiple times and it poses no threat to the clam at all. Good luck.

I know, I know,,
I recently moved 15 clams.. Most were "stuck"
I just pulled hard. :eek2:
But s cutting the byssal is the best way..
If clams are healthy, there is no problem ;)

Please be very very careful. If you damage the foot, it's all downhill from there. Thats why you should always put them in a small rock when you first get them. That way if you want to move them again, you dont have to detach them from the rock.

Good Luck!
