How can I tell if my clownfish are breeding? What are some signs? When a fish come near their host anemone the nudge it away.. also what do eggs look like?
Here is what I've been told. It usually takes about 3 years for them to reach sexual maturity. The eggs are small round pink. You'll see the male, smaller of the two, fanning the eggs probably won't budge away from them. And a lot of the time they will lay the eggs close to the base of the anemone.
There is a LOT of information out there to tell if they are mating. Also very easy to see if your female is gravid (holding eggs) which is a huge indicator that she is about to lay eggs. I would recommend a simple google search should give you quite a bit of information on that. This forum is a great place along with googling MOFIB which is a group of breeders dedicated to enhancing our knowledge of ornamental fish aquaculture.
