what types of fish would you put in a 150 gallon mixed sps/lps/zoa/softie tank? 125 gallon refigium (with a 50" x 18.5 x 6" sandbed) 3 x 250 watt lumenarc halides

I was thinking two or three tangs (not sure which ones)
a mandarin
some type of schooling fish (cardinals?? would love them to breed)

what else???

what are some of your suggestions.

egg crate. what type of wrasse do you have in your profile pic there? can you put more than one wrasse in a 150?

thats a good option and choice. I will have to look into that.

Egg crate works some times, some samller wrasses can fit through the holes in the egg crate.

The Wrasse in my avatar is a McCosker Flashers Wrasse.

Yes you can put more than one wrasse in a 150, in fact you can put a good amount.

Here are some good geniuses (spelling?) i'd look into: Paracheilinus, Cirrhilabrus, Halichores, and Pseudocheilinus.

As far as cardinals, I like the threadfin ones.

I would also add, a pair of dwarf angels.
Some other favorites are, midas blenny, marine betta, flame hawk, any of the fang blennies, pair of clowns, pistol shrimp goby pair, and I would look into the wrasses too.

i would do this if i had that tank.......a moorish idol tank......with 3 moorish idols for when there in that number there survival rates increase expedentially. along with other peiceful fish........like a green mandarin.....with ur tank you could support a piar of mandarins.....i wuld also include a blue tang. and another piecful tang or a powder blue would be cool.
uummm as well as a school of anthias pink in color to give some color diversity. and a clown pair.....haha just what i would do :)

I like the idea of the midas blenny...cool swimming fish.
pair of clowns.. is a good one
always worried that if i get a pistol/goby pair I will never see them

wrasses I am going to look int.

I like the idea of two tangs (not sure which kind)

moorish idols.. never thought of them... I will have to look into that.

So this is what I am thinking:
2 tangs (blue tang and maybe a powder blue) small naso??
wrasse(s)
pair of clowns
manadrin
green chromis
midas blenny

what else could I go

This is how I would stock a 150:

2 tangs. I hippo and 1 tomini
A pair of flasher wrasses. 1 male 1 female
10 blue reef chromis ( they add an amazing shimmer/movement effect)
6 Barletts anthias. 1 male 5 females
1 pair of true percula clowns
1 pair of diamond gobies to keep the sand white
1 purple psuedochromis

I would not do Moorish Idols. They are difficult to get to eat. There survival rates are very poor and they get huge.

HTH

thats probably the closest list to what I had in mind so far.

my sand is not going to be fine enough for diamond gobies though... love them in my 75 gallon reef.

is the blue reef crhomis the same as the green? or are they two seperate animals?

what about an angel?

The blue reef chromis is different. I hear they are more delicate shippers and that's why they are more expensive and more rare than the common blue/greens. But after shipping they should be quite hardy. I am going to get them for my 120. Google blue reef chromis and you'll see how pretty they are.

I have never had an angel so I'm not sure about those but I do know they might pick at your corals. Maybe someone else can chime in about if a large angel can fit in a 150.

You could put a large angel in there, you just have to be careful which one. I would recommend these genus:
Apolemichthys
Centropyge
Genicanthus
Maybe some of the smaller Chaetodontoplus
Pygoplites diacanthus (regal angel)
Pomacanthus navarchus (majestic) pretty much all other Pomacanthus get to large IMO

Centropyge are my favorite though, they are easy to pair up, they could get full size in your tank, you would be able to watch their spawning rituals, and many people have kept them in reefs (most species...) with success.

I was wondering that. With the dwarf angels being known to eat corals... i figured the larger angels would have no problem eating corals as well. I think I am going to steer clear of the angels.

what about:
Banggai Cardinalfish? I have never been able to keep them without fighting though. I have seen on here where people have had them breed in their tank... I would like this to happen in my tank. any thoughts?

what type of anthias would you possibly use/get

Banggai's will fight unless you keep them in a pair (1m 1f). You will have a reasonable chance of them breeding then.
Lyretail anthias are pretty hardy but they need QTing as they often carry parasites.
FWIW a 150g isn't going to big enough for a naso.

Its difficult to sex them. IMO the best way to do it is to look in the holding tank at the LFS and look for two which are together and staying away from the rest of the group. Or...you can buy 3 or 4. Put them in QT and see who pairs off. Then return the others to the LFS. Don't leave them all in there for too long as the pair will become very aggressive.
