Hiya

Just wondering if you guys could give me abit of advise...

I have been offered an Aussie Elegance coral and in the UK this is quite a rarity it is very expensive and the colours on it are very intense...

How can i be sure its Aussie and not and Indo at a rip off price?

Thanks

Elliott :)

I am wondering the same thing. I just got a new Elegance Coral a couple of weeks ago. I have done a ton of research, and can't find much in the way of an answer to this one. One article I read said that the Elegances with bright purple tips come from deeper water, so they are harder to maintain in an aquarium.

I don't know if there is any truth to this.

Most aussie elegance have a broken end, like a big frag. The skeleton is also allot lighter since they aren't buried in the muck like the deep water indo elegance are. Post a pic and we can make an educated guess.

There is no truth to this. The color of the tips of their tentacles tells us nothing about where the coral came from.

I asked this question at 2 respected LFS in my area. Both said there wasn't a foolproof method other than word of mouth.

Maybe make sure the guy you're buying it from is a trustworthy source? It all depends on how much you REALLY want that elegance ;)

I have a friend with a wholesale operation and he recently got a bunch of Indo Elegances in. From what he has been told from his suppliers, these do in fact come from depper waters, and do survive at a higher rate. All of them also seemed "fragged" off and were sawed off flat at the base so they could stand on thier own. Not positive what happens with Aussie Elegances and not sure if this is just what one particular supplier does, but that might be some evidence that the coral is from Indo and not Aussie.

If they looked like big 'frags' with at least one broken end, they were most likely aussie and not indo.
