HS Skimmers Worth the $$$$

I am also looking at one of these. The A110-F2000, local shop has it for $459, which is what im finding it for at online vendors. I have not spoke to anyone that has one though.

H&S are worth the money. When it comes down to it sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. I have never heard anyone say they regret spending the money on an H&S.

This is a good example. For $440, you could get a Euro-Reef RS180. For $485, you could get an RS250. Both of these would outskimm the A110-F2000 by a mile. They are not even in the same class.

Then we get to the requirements part. Can you fit the ER RS skimmer? Do you require an external skimmer, or is in sump ok? Does it need to be quiet?

Are these RS models by EuroReef External? This is the direction I was leaning towards. Also who is a good vendor of these? I saw on MarineDepot's site that the biggest one listed is the 135. Also what would be your thoughts on using a RC 80 which is recirculating, on a 75 gallon? MD has them for $498

The RS are internal, RC are external. Premium Aquatics carries the full ER line.

even then.. when you compare external to external.. the ER's come out cheaper. If you want external, the CS is the line for ER. I was looking at them. :)

You won't be upset if you spend the money, that's for sure. But ER is finally putting some decently matched skimmers together to compete with H&S/Deltec, I personally wouldn't buy one yet, I've experienced too many problems with ER. I'd also take an external over an internal anyday.

Careful of anyone who emphatically claims one skimmer would outskim another "by a mile" who's never used either ....

I have an H&S Skimmer on my reef and love it. I have an ASM skimmer on my fish only and love it. The H&S cost like 3 times the ASM and no way does it skim 3 times better. However I think the H&S might pull skimate out of water that the ASM can not due to its bubble size and composition. That is really due to the difference in pumps (Modified Eheim 1262 vs Sedra 9000) and needle/pin design. No proof of this, just my opinion.

I was forced into the H&S because it is the only external skimmer of large capacity that I could find at the time that would fit in my cabinet. I have been very happy with it but there are better bangs for the buck. I do love that Eheim pump.

I am just full of love today. :)

H&S skimmers really worth the $$$.

I was planning to buy the Deltec 702 but due to my sump size and the demand of large skimmer capacity, I "discovered" H&S and must say it's an impressive skimmer.
I use the new 250-2x1260 and every $ I paid equals to skimate I get...:D

Read the last 6 paragraphs of this article.

I don't care for that article's opinion on skimmers. It contains too many generalizations.

Are H&S skimmers worth it? I like mine. It has been the easiest skimmer to maintain. It is also very compact and very quiet. The new Euro-Reefs are indeed very promising.

I agree.
