Hurricane Irma on the way

I got to thinking, you could get a few of those $25- $35 air bubblers for live bait wells that require about .5 amp and wire for use with a charged 240 amp deep cycle marine battery. Not a great mathematician due to age and chemical induction, but should provide at least a few days of use.

Should be able to still find these at a marine supply store.

Sincerely,

David

Based on the last NHC update we are not out of the woods. They have it on the Keys Sunday, not going up the east coast of FL. If it is in the Keys on Sunday we are prime targets.

There's at least 3 models showing it taking a 90 right into Florida. Of course we are all hoping it passes us by. Unfortunately, being on the north side of a hurricane is no picnic either. But even if it hits the mainland here you are not out of the woods. I remember driving around in Katrina. I was shocked what it did to LA.

We must have ****ed someone really bad to get hit by these two humangus hurricanes one right after the other. Good that my tank is coming this Friday so is not up yet.
Good luck all. I'm in Miami so in in the woods as well.

Hold on tight and stay safe. I think you are going to get some no matter what happens. Hope it is minor.

Pulling out of Paris accords. Taking trousers down and dumping on every piece of climate change research. ...that might do it for people who believe in Karma...

Did I hear or read that the US has never been hit by two category 4 or 5 hurricanes in one year before?

Indeed. For now though, sending our well wishes to all those in the path of the storm. Make good decisions and stay safe.

Why anyone would use this time as a political football is beyond me! So Florida is going to get punished because USA pulled out of Paris? Really! I am hoping it turns north, and Florida/ my friends on RC, KP Aquatics, and the Gulf are spared.

I'm sure someone has already posted, but these are actually really good.

Silent Air B11 Battery Operated Aquarium Air Pump For Power Outage Automatic Turn On Keeps Fish Safe Up to 29 Gallons https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004PBIKHU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_59.RzbVG0322F

I have a couple and transported held fish in containers for 36-48 hours. A set of batteries lasted well over 24 hours, but after 24 you can hear that the pump isn't pumping as hard so I just changed them.

AmazonBasics D Cell Everyday Alkaline Batteries (12-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MH4QKP6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_waaSzbK9QZX0S

With 2 air pumps running you can get 3 days probably 4-5 at a stretch of one pack, so maybe get a couple packs?

Good air filter while your ordering.

Good luck to everyone in Irmas path [emoji120]

Thanks for the ideas.

Thanks for the ideas.

JTL i am in Weston and live in a pretty tough house and the city has great infrastructure. During Wilma which was a cat 3 I lost power for about 30 minutes. but i have a bad feeling about this. I have been freezing bags of water just in case to try to keep things cool. I like the bucket idea too.

The stores have basically been stripped since Sunday and I am good with anything else. looks like its really out of my hands now.

All of us in FL are concerned but the latest track puts you and the rest of the east coast in potentially grave danger. There is little doubt it is going to turn north, but when? The storm is so large and the distance across Florida so small we are all going to feel the effects. Like you, I have tried to cover every contingency that is humanly possible. Even though I have generator I have even assumed that could fail or I could run short of gas. I have enough for about 30 hours of continuous use. Have lots of water, beer, wine, food, propane. I even have 20 sandbags. Good luck!

Guys you can also blow air into a tank through a hose from your mouths (lungs to be more precise). Exhaled air is still has 14-16% oxygen (as compared to atmospheric 21% oxygen ). It contains ~4% CO2 which is a lot more compared to 0.04% found in atmosphere but O2 is still enough and far better than nothing.

If you blow fast short breaths, those have far less CO2 and more O2 since you basically blow the air in your mouth and larynx/trachea, rater than lungs, and allow very short time for gas exchange inside the lungs.

During a winter storm that knocked out power for 2 days, I aerated a tank by blowing air into it. I sat next to it for whole day (there was nothing better to do anyways) and blew 10-15 short breaths every ~15mins. During the night I used a air pump on timer connected to a battery. Tank temperature dropped to 68-72F (i think this actually halped) and pH dropped to ~7.1, but nothing died.
