Hurting Crocea Clam: Pls help

Well, my Crocea has been in my tank for almost a year now. It has lived through losing its foot, becoming "unhinged"(that was 10 months ago and its alive!), it lived through a flatworm infestation, and lived through Flatworm Exit treatment last month. It has been happy, and in the same spot for the past year

Last night I came home, and it had half its mantle retracted. It was a strange sight, kinda looked like it was "cradling" a wound, like we would cradle in our arm if it was hurt. It was sucking in the top of one side of its mantle, but seemed like it was trying not to close up completely. The last hour before lights out it was totally clammed up (as clammed up as an unhinged clam can be).

Nothing new at all has been added to my tank in about 6 months, like I said the clam has been fine every single day since I got, only yesterday it seemed injured, but that cant be. Everything else in the tank is fine, nothing suspicious at all. I know my lighbulb is 11 months old now, and I'm gonna get a new one this weekend, but it cant be the lighting, cause it was still trying to extend itsd mantle, it just wanted to not extend a small portion of the mantle.

Im sorry I dont have a pic, I also didnt do any tests last night, last test was 2 weeks ago when I did my last water change, and of course, "everything is fine".

Any idea's I can look into when I get home later? Tks for the help

sorry no pics, and no, nothing at all has been added, or changed in my tank since the summer. Not a single thing has changed for any tank inhabitant, except for the funny mantle behaviour of my clam yesterday. something must have happened, like a coral fell on the mantle or something, but my tank is excatly the same as ever, just the clam is hurting..... very frustrating trying to figure out what happened, it couldv'e been a million different things I guess. But, any idea's would help

salt creep falling on it can burn the mantle. It will recover from such a burn but it takes time.

I didn't know that, and it's definately possible (my tank is all HOB stuff, no sump, so lots of salt creep on the machinery, wires, etc...).

I hope thats it, thanks so much for the input

Sounds like hes already been quite the trooper. I recently found out that my evil little perc clown was biting my squammy and causing him to clost up periodically and look like what you are describing.. who would have known. Best of luck to you.

I did have some salt creep fall on the incurrent siphon of one of my squamosa's, the clam is well on it's way to a full recovery now.

well, I dont know if it is salt burn, I dont see a mark on its mantle. I also cant see a mark on the squamosa picture.... can you clarify if there is a visible mark?

But the clam does seem better, its extending its mantle more, but still favours that one side.... its not relaxed as it normally is, still retracts its mantle fully sometimes and clams up, but seems to be trying to relax.

to the comment on the fish biting it, I only have one tomato clown, and he has been hosting in the clam for about 6 months, I doubt it would bite it

at least its getting better, or seems to be

My clam's salt burn is in the incurrent siphon on the right side, see how the hole is alot bigger than it should be.
