Hi ya'll,

Most of you have heard me talk about my new 150G tank, that is in the cycling process. I bought the lights (M.H.) second hand. Well I have never had M.H. lights, and I don't want to appear toooooo stupid (opps, too late), but why does my ballast make that horrible humming sound, when I turn on the lights?. Surely, that's not normal... or is it? :eek1: Should I be concerned? :rolleye1:

What kind of Ballast is it, And How Old are they? Sometimes they hum until they warm up but it could be the reason they sold them too? See if it goes away after a while and if not you may want to make sure they are Safe to Run that way?

the magnetic ones will make a hum when they warm up and will sometimes continue to do so. how hot does it get? how big is the ballast box?

My fixture has internal ballasts and when my MH's fire up it sounds like an RC car running wide open or a small RC Plane taking off.
