Hydor FLO Rotating Deflector

How do these work? Can these just plug into the return on a biocube 29. I have heard lots of good reviews and im debating on one of these if i can hook it up the the return outlet or a y conector with 2 flare nozels.

Remember, the maximum flow through these is 310 gph. I put them on closed loops and return lines that go through the back panel of tanks right on the bulkhead fittings.

can you post a pic of it on your biocube. Im about to order it or a 6" straight peice flexible ballsocket with a Y fiting and 2 flare nozels. Witch to choose

there we go just what i wanted to know it fits right onto the return fiting. Now would you say that it would have beter flow than some flexible ballsocket. I was thinking a Y then 3" straight and some flow nozzles

dont know about the others but this rotating deflector does a pretty nice job, i added another koralia 1 to the left side and i think i have too much flow.

Well thx much for all the info. I went for the Y flexible ballsocket with 2 flow nozzles. Should work just fine i liked the sound of the wave maker and how it stimulates currnet but i guess il try it if this isnt enough.

They're a dirt cheap wavemaker that doesn't need electricity. Can't go wrong. When I had cheato, short strands of it would get caught in the flo, but they're easy to take apart and clean. Sometimes they need to be soaked in distilled vinegar for awhile.

mine is in my parts graveyard; snails constantly got into the rotator and stopped the rotating effect, and I just gave up on it; I really did not see much of a difference with it anyway, and personally I think it cut down on the amount of flow from the return pump.

For what it's worth, it seems as if a lot of BC owners upgrade to the MaxiJet 900 for more flow (and less heat) vs. the stock pump. The additional flow would help drive the deflector while still increasing the overall turnover in the tank.

I upgraded to the MJ1200 and granted even if there is less flow atleast its circulating the WHOLE tank, instead of just one stream.
