Hydor Koralia Price Increase @ Doc's Foster & Smith

I just went online to check out these pumps again and they have increased in price $10 across the board. #1 was $27.99/is $37.99, #2 was $34.99/is $44.99, #3 was $39.99/is $49.99 and #4 was $49.99/is $59.99. I called Doc's Foster & Smith to see why they changed prices from one week to the next and they said that Hydor increased their cost to them so they had to increase their cost to us. I checked out AquariumConnection.com and there's are still the same price they were last week (i.e. #2 is still $35.99)...does this mean Doc's F&S is getting greedy or will all places see this price increase soon???

Thanks Kid, I couldn't find anyone besides Drfs. Just ordered, to my door for 56 bones. Cool deal!

I'm sorry but if you're a reputable company you should set your price on your product BEFORE you start selling it wholesale or retail and stick to it (unless the cost of making your product increases significantly)! I don't know if it is Hydor increasing their costs but if it is I would think it would happen for everyone selling their pumps and not just Doc's F&S, if it IS Doc's F&S just trying to take advantage of the huge demand for this hot new product then they should be ashamed of themselves as that is called price gouging (otherwise known as supply and demand like another poster said) and is usually only done by the more unreputable companies!!!

wow....they just lost a customer for $10....

Well they never sold anything substantial for reef keeping anyways... Really , how many of us use canister filters...lol

It's not just about the $10 muttley, it's the principle of the matter...from last week to this week they raised their prices...I want to know why because right now I'm having a hard time buying that Hydor raised their prices to them as I still see other suppliers selling koralias and their prices haven't risen. I wouldn't necessarily say i won't buy stuff from them but I'll certainly be A LOT more wary of them!!!

I just found another example...Champion Lighting and Supply sell the Koralia's and they are priced at the same price that Doc's F&S had originally. Makes you wonder for sure!!!

My pair of #3's just arrived today. I sure am glad I placed the order earlier in the week. They work fantastic by the way.

I'm personally not a fan of Drfs so i'm glad to take my business elsewhere. They are to pricey. I wish premium Aquatics had them but oh well, and Kid, i would like to see a good game as well. Good luck to ya man!

price increase

price increase

it could be because they need help on paying royalties to tunze for copying a patent.
Just a guess.

The thing is I wouldn't have had as much of a problem if they had come out with these higher prices originally but they didn't, who's to say in another 2 or 3 weeks they won't raise them again??? Like I said, if EVERYBODY increased their prices I would definitely tend to believe that Hydor was behind the price increase but evidently that isn't the case here as so far just Dr.F&S has increased their prices. That makes me tend not to believe that they weren't making money on them as that would mean neither are the other smaller company's that are selling them and those company's can't afford not to make a profit on the product they sell! Right now it just seems like a game of dirty pool that Doc's F&S is playing with the average Joe reefkeeper, this item is white hot and everyone wants one so they decide they can raise their prices and a few people (like myself) will complain but the majority will just take it because of their reputation as a good company to deal with and they easily have the most advertising dollars so they can out-advertise the smaller companies. I guess it's up to people who don't like these underhanded tactics to inform the general public so they're aware there ARE other places besides Doc's F&S to buy these new pumps and at more reasonable prices!

luke33, i just got an email from jason at premium aquatics and he says they will have them on order and should be in within the next week or so. i'm getting ready to order 2 but can't decide if i want the 3's or 4's for my 90gal(new setup). anybody have opinion on this?
