Hydrometer broke in water change barrel.

I have A 55g drum for water changes. I use a glass hydrometer to double check my refractometer and it appears during filling and mixing the pump thrust it to the bottom and it cracked. For years it's been fine now it's broken. The weight at the bottom I presume is lead... Can I still use this water or is it now toast because of the lead in the water. I just pulled 5 gallons from my tank so now I'm in a bind. Need to get water flow going again fast.

Not sure. But if it makes you feel any better. I had one of the weighted glass thermometers break in my tank. The lead pellets mixed with the sand, I noticed just before leaving for out of town so there wasn't much I was going to do. Needless to say the tank didn't skip a beat while away.
