Hype, Don't know if you remember, but I posted that the Mrs was skeptical of a new build until I showed her pics of your tank? Once she saw your pics she was on board with my ideas. Got the build done, still have to tweak the aquascape, and I'll never take as good pics as you, but here it is.
I'm using two Marineland reef capable LEDs and a generic actinic LED. The actinic is so generic there wasn't even a brand name on the box. I only had the one Marineland when that pic was taken.
The Marineland Reef capable LEDs don't get a lot of love on RC but they're right for my purposes. I have LPS with one clam and everything is thriving. My only objection is that for shallow tanks the optics are too narrow. Mounted on the rim of your tank they'd look like mini spotlights .
Just built a partial open hood for the tank that allows me to raise the lights 3-4 inches. In fact the paint just finished curing and I'll be installing it tonight.
Most of the colonies came out of this ten gallon tank that was up about 8 years. Part of the impetus for the build was I was tired of chopping up my corals every six months.
But to once again give you credit, once the Mrs saw your tank pics she understood what I wanted to do and why an off the shelf tank wouldn't work.
Great Tank! Truly inspirational.
How does the eel work out with all the peaceful fish in the tank? bongo shrimp, harlequin(never seen a purple one!), sea horse, chromis plus an eel i would think you would get some casualties. my snowflake was ferocious!
Thanks, I'll have a tank thread on here soon.
The LEDs look a bit blurred lol what sort of glass/plastic cover did you use over them and does it help a great deal in dispersing the light?
