hypo in display vs hospital tank

what are the downfalls to treating in a display, that has no inverts, no pods or anything of that nature to cause a huge die off. I know that a hospital tank would make more sense...but 6 weeks of hypo in my display would eradicate ich from the display as well as the fish...two birds..one stone. thoughts?

If it is a fish only tank, not a problem. If it is a fowlr then watch for ammonia and be very careful with feeding too much. If it is anything else, no way.

In any case be very vigilant to make sure you don't have Uronema in the tank. In hypo it will explode and kill all your fish.

I'll add the reminder that you must have a refractometer calibrated to 1.000 or 1.008, not 1.0264

yea I calibrated mine to rodi water at 1.000 so I should be good there. and lets hope I don't have uronema idk how ide ever know that lol

if you want to eradicate ich from your tank 6 weeks of hyposalinity may not be enough as the encysted stages are almost immune to everything, including low salinity, copper and most other medications. The only things that reliably kill them is bleach, heat (1h above 40C) or drying out.

If there is nothing in the tank that can be killed I would just raise the temperature to 50C for a day while treating the fish in an HT.
