Hypo in DT?

My tank is only a few months old and I haven't started any coral yet. Mt Hippo appears to have ICH. Can I run Hypo in my DT? Will it affect the live rock or inverts? I would rather QT my inverts if needed and HYPO the whole DT if that's an option

Hypo will kill anything that isn't a fish. There are hypo resistant strains of ich out there, just a FYI. It will essentially make your live rock dead except for the coralline algae, all pods, snails, hermits, starfish ect will die

I don't know if it will kill it, but it will do significant harm to it.

The coralline algae will be among the first things to die, but a good number of pods and micro organisms may actually survive.
Green hair algae will also survive (as a rule of thumb: desirable things will die while the nuisance stuff will thrive).

Hyposalinity is also only safe for teleost fish. Sharks, rays and some other may not tolerate it.

Treatments in the DT are generally a bad idea and should be avoided even if the medication is "reef safe".

Thank you Roewer. What my post should of said was it will kill everything EXCEPT Nitrifying bacteria... I should proof read more often :thumbsup:

Best bet is to get a 10-20g tank and make it your hospital tank. Take it from me I learned and am learning the hard way as I type this. Have a 265g and filled it a little to quickly without any QT, my guys got Velvet and prob some ich as well. I have them all in a 55g right now treating. This is day 5 of QT. I have a long long way to go. I left all corals and inverts in the 265 and will let it go fallow for 90 days.
