Hypo-salinity question

Placed my Darwin pair in Q/T last night suffering from Ich. Set my salinity to 1.017 and placed them in. Didn't sleep a wink. Female suffering more so than the male, but spots were gone this morning. My question is they wouldn't eat this morning even though they had good movement. Is this a symptom of the salinity or the disease?

It's tough to say, it could be anything to be honest.

If there's no visual abnormalities and you water parameters check out it's all a guess.

I'd do my best to try to minimize stress.

Are they breathing ok?

SG of 1.017 will have no value for ich; you need 1.009. Hyposalinity will have no value for velvet or brook.

Thanks snorvich, what do you figure the female had? I'm dropping salinity more as we speak. I guess I was a little scared to go that much in one setting, but I understand what you are saying.

snorvich, I have seen Brook before, but the onset was so fast we couldn't react fast enough to save the percs that were infected. They ate and were fine then listing on the bottom 2 hours later.

This is common with brooklynella, velvet can be almost as quick. I'd do some research on brooklynella, marine ich, and marine velvet. just Google them. Being able to diagnose these 3 parasites is vital, IMO.

I completely agree. Also learn to look for the behaviors associated with these parasites (as well as flukes) as often times that is a more reliable diagnostic means than physical appearance.

did you match the PHof the desalinated water to that of your tank water ? that might of thrown them.

my 180 is in hypo at the moment. i droped my salinity to 1.009 but still took about 2 weeks for all ich to disapear from all fish.
