Hyposalinity and live rock??

I have a hippo tang that I am treating for ick currently in a 10 gallon tank and can't keep ammonia and nitrite down even with frequent big water changes. If I put some peices of live rock from my DT in there to help... will the rock be affected by the low salinity of the water?

The liverock will likely have it's bacteria hurt by the salinity swing. Remember bacteria are smaller than the crypto so less able to handle salt swings as a general rule. I'm not saying none would survive, but if it is a large sudden swing, you could be looking at die off from the rock adding to the ammonia problem. WHat kind of filtration do you have set up?

I am currently just running a HOB filter. The filter itself was left floating in my sump for the last 2-3 weeks before being used in the hospital tank.
