I am shifting from a mix reef tank to a FOLWR tank and i have a list of fishes in my 200G tank. Just want to know if its possible hypo the whole DT without removing the sand and liverock? As i do have about 5kg of bio home plus in the sump wondering if its enough. I do not have space for a QT too :(

Bad idea imo, because any life in the sand and rock will die, eg bristleworms, causing an ammonia spike which could then poison your fish.

Yea thats what i have heard of was wondering if bio homes could consume the ammonia or does bio pellet help in anyway?

I've used live rock with hypo. It works fine. However, the rock never had major life established in it other than bacteria. I never tried it with an established sand bed either.

I would think all the pods dieing and snails, and worms, etc. Would cause a major spike. However, when I did it the bacteria on the rock must have stayed consistant and remain unaffected by the migration to hypo because I never had an amonia spike.

Again, this was fairly unestablished live rock...

Thats the problem i am trying to find a person who has established live rock who copper or hypo the main tank before :(

I am going through this now,I removed all my corals and those attached to liverock and about 100 lbs of liverock to another tank.I also took about 20 lbs of sand from dt to seed back my sand bed after the 12 week waiting period
