I am very proud of my clown.

I adopted a little percula ( less than 2 inches) a few months ago and now he is around 3.5 to 4 inches. I saw the desperate look for a friend in that clown when he would try and swim with the only blue green chromis. Well, the strangely the chromis is best friends with the sixline so that didn't work out. I decided to buy another perc. I went to the LFS and watched this 1.5 inch guy eat and swim for a week or two so I said thats the one. When i bought him he was torn up harassed by damsels and so on. I could only QT him for a week or two to avoid sex issues. He was on garlic guard to get rid of internal parasites and treated for bacteria and protzoans. Here is him in the QT:

Now while the little guy was being acclimated in the clear bag he still had some scale loss and damage so I was a little scared. Then the establish clown shot straight to the bag and kept biting the bag!!! I was worried then. So it was time for the little guy to go in. The tank was dimed and a little anxoity built up and off he went in the tank. I was worried that the little guy was going to be attacked by the other clown for dominance issues and then something strange happened..... the established clown started fanning next to the scared little guy while he was in the bottom corner. Didn't bite or anything he hung around the little guy for 5minutes until the foxface was curious about the new fish and then I saw the weirdiest thing ever the established clown shot at the foxface and started nipping him away form the little guy and from then on swam around the little guy for the rest of the night. The next day they were swimming side by side EVERYWHERE. I was so relieved and excited. I guess my perc really wanted a friend. The little guy is doing good now and looks extremely happy. I will post pics of them now, tonight. I thought this was a cool story to share with everyone.

witnessing these things is what makes me feel ok about how much i spend on this hobby- I don't have kids (and don't intend to anytime soon) so I get much amusement from the relationships and behaviors of the fishies.

Awww, she likes him! Congrats, hopefully they'll become an established pair and maybe even lay eggs for you eventually. Clowns really are better in pairs; I have a lone occelaris, and (in another tank) a pair of GSMs - the maroons are just adorable together and I see all sorts of neat behaviour that I'm missing out on with the occy. Need to get her a 'friend' I guess! :D
