I Bare All (See Pix)

I placed 1/4 plexiglass on the bottom of my tank. That way the rock won't put alot of pressure on the bottom glass.Rock on sand has a chance of shifting cause rocks to fall, could be bad if it hits the glass.
Lining the whole bottom? or just where the rock is?

Doesn't sound like a bad idea.

I was thinking about buying some 3/4" sheats of plastic.
Then cutting those up into base peices that I will glue or melt the base rock onto. Basically making feet.

Might try just getting a sheet of plexi or something to line the entire bottom.

SO I am getting nearer to moving my 75g occupants into their new 135g home. I can't help but wonder if the tank will ever look as good...I took my last photo of the 75g today...Heres to not killing all my stuffs...

Okay, that's gorgeous! Nice job! Love the Monti.

Although building your LR reef on sand is like building a house in Memphis: At some point, the floor will crack and something will shift.

My Vote:
Rock on Glass
(Like Dave’s idea better)
Then, backfill with Sand for aesthetics and stability.

I have a nice Sand-funnel for “placing” the sand, just where you want it, and minimizing the “poof” factor.

very nice!!!
i do see why you need more space!!! how big is that frogspawn on the right? '
i wish i could leave well enough alone and let corals get that mature.... :(

Really looks good. I know you have to be cringing at the thought of upsetting what you have, but overjoyed at the thought of all that new space for things to grow in. How Long have you had your 70 set up and running?

Wolfblade, thanks, Im not too worried about killing, so much as the adoption of some new problems. Seems one really does become complacent with the known when faced with the unknown.
Mako, I ended up with a thin layer of sand because of my desire to keep some sand sifter(s) in the future, plus I really dig my creepie crawlies that come out the sand. Just adds another dimension to the tank.
Cateyes, The frogspawn is about the size of a basketball. It started out mid 2008 as 2 heads from Kerms. All of the coral are under 440w of VHO, something I will miss the most...Sort of...I am actually incorporating 150w of VHO on each end of the 135g to facilitate the LPS/softies. The trick will be getting the water flow tweaked as well as it is in the 75.
Ducklabdad, Thanks, I purchased, and with help, moved this tank into my home from another gentlemans home about 3 years ago. It looks vastly different now as it was all softies before with a couple LPS corals. I have a pretty good idea what I can get away with and what I can't under the VHO's and given that the only thing automated on the tank is top-off and lights I'd say what ever stride I hit, it resonates with the animals in the tank. I hope this last photo is proof to anyone that regualr water changes are *just about* everything you need to keep your shizzle happy. (10g every other week for the 75, 5g every week to two weeks in the 29). I will say that the long spine urchin was probably the smartest move I made, it really does wonders for getting that last little layer of algea off the tank and rock, keeps it very clean. I might also add that keeping on top of your clean up crew is just as important as your water changes. Its hard to explain but I have been very lucky to find a sweet spot with this tank in load vs the tanks ability to filter itself. I simply do not have nitrate problems, even were I to skip a month or two of water changes. However, with out the changes, you can't expect good coral growth or not to run into algea issues at some point...Just thinking out loud now, I guess...
I still have some logistics to work out since I will be re-using some equipment from the tanks that are already in use. I suppose it will come down to just setting a Fri eve or Saturday as move day and rock by rock, coral by coral, make the move. I am sure at this point I will be frag'in pieces for the new setup. I would love to sell the larger pieces and just keep the frags so I can do a lot more aqua-scaping now that I know how most of these will tend to grow. We'll see I suppose.
