You like that?

Not as much as I do ;)

I am VERY glad to see you fixed it Chris. You have to tell me when Ic an see those awesome colonies you have in their glory.

Good call on the I-Tech. I've had a bunch of skimmers and the I-Tech is the best of the bunch. If you go to www.i-techskimmers.com you can see how well the I-Tech 100 runs next to a 1200 ATB. Save your money and still pull the nog!!

Chris

Chris (CeeGee),

You know you may not get as much gunk as the people in the pics. Youa re running an ULNS system and that leaves very little waste to skim :D

I've got .03 phosphates and 0 Nitrates and while I don't get as dark and nasty skim as some I still get a good amount and its pretty dark. I usually get about 600ml of dark tea skim in about 4 days or so (yeah I measured it lol)

I say that it hasn't pulled much but I guess in truth it has pulled as much in 2 days as my ASM did in two weeks and it isn't even broken in yet!

From what I understand when running a ULNS you really need a good skimmer as it pulls more out of the water not less. The bacteria consumes all the phosphate and nitrate and then you skim the he** out of the tank to pull that bacteria out.

I am really hoping this skimmer works for me cause I feel a little nauseous because in my heart I think I should have went with the 200. I tend to overdo my equipment when possible and this time it wasn't po$$ible.

I am really stoked about this skimmer though and time will tell if I made the right choice between the 100 now or waiting and waiting to get the 200 with the Tunze pump.

I was getting the Tunze pump on either model. The Sicce may be adequate but I am a big fan of Tunze and if given a choice I would always choose Tunze or Ehiem pumps.

Andy,
you are welcome to come by any time. I am afraid that it will be some time though before this tank will look worth anything (sheds a tear) as the corals were in such bad shape from all the problems I have had. It's like Bill told me the tank didn't get this way over night and it isn't going to straighten out that quick either. I am just going to take my time and do what I can to keep it on the right track. I have a better feel for what I am trying to do now. I have been feeling my way around in the dark for a long time. I still have a few things to iron out but I think I will get there.

cwegescheide,
I have been over to the forum and your post (i-Tech100 vs ATB) and emster's TOTM is what convinced me to go with the i-tech instead of waiting and waiting and waiting for victor to get some more ATB smalls in stock. That and the fact that my wife would kill me if she found out I dropped a grand on a skimmer. She wasn't too happy about the $450 but I am still kickin :)

All I can tell you is the 100 will do well for you. The 200 isn't necessarily going to do more imho because it is so damm efficient that 100gallons means 100 gallons..and it actually would do well on a 125 I bet too.

It sounds like it is working just fine :-)

Yeah it makes some damn fine bubbles. I really feel that i-Tech is going to blow up. If they can keep on top of things they are going to be very successful with their "side venture". I find it hard to believe that a couple of LFS people can make a product that performs with the best of the best and has construction quality better than 95% of the "professional" products on the market.

Well, we shall see what happens. The fact that their engineering is better, and at half the price says all. Bubble King, Shmuggle King..they rape and rip off and I for one am glad to see someone come in and just do good! John does it for the love, and thus the money follows. You can tell whenever you talk with him that he is passionate about this stuff..it is about the technology and performance..no the profit.

I saw that thread, Chris. Was that yours?

Freakin' awesome! As of right now, the I-tech will definitely be my next skimmer, whenever that is. :D

Yeah it was Chris' thread. cwegescheide real name is Chris as well. :)

I can't afford an ATB and after seeing how the smaller i-Tech 100 (that isn't even running the much better Tunze pump) compares to the larger 3 times as expensive ATB, I don't know why anyone would afford the ATB.

I've got a feeling you're not the only one who will be asking themselves this same question. ;)

I sure wish I would have waited. The ATB is nice but I just can't get over how well the I-Tech performs. The construction is bomb proof and the price cant be beat.

I'm glad you learned from my mistake. If you would like to donate to the "I'm a doofus for dropping 1200 on an ATB fund" I would gladly accept

I will say that at the time the I-Tech skimmers were not yet available when I got the ATB. I really needed a quality skimmer but just wish I didn't have to pay 3x the price.

No, I'm sure you will be VERY happy with your I-Tech 100. I've been to Emmits place a few times and he's probably running about 150 gallons and I have never seen a more packed tank than his. I don't know how he can stick his hand in his tank without fraggin someting. Its amazing. He does think its about maxed out with his 90 gallon, sump and 40 breeder frag tank all plumbed together with the 100 on it.

You can only get what is available at the time.

It is working better every day thus far. I got home and had to turn it down as it is skimming too wet.

Chris,
How long of a gap in time was there between when you purchased the ATB and the i-Tech? I can't see looking to buy a skimmer anytime soon after dropping $1200 on one :)

Also how did you get a european model? The american ones are red in color. I do like the red but I don't like it for an additional $500 :)

Another thing I like about the i-Tech is the footprint and the way it looks in my sump. My skimmer compartment went from looking like the last board in Donkey Kong Jr. to a BMW 7 series :smokin:

I'd say I had the ATB for about a year before I got the I-Tech. I was setting up a decent sized frag tank so I got the I-Tech for it. I don't know how I got the Euro one but thats it. I know it took forever to get them. I think initially when the ATB's were pretty new in the states I was one of the first to get one. Thats when the Bubble Kings were all the rage..
