I cant believe a fellow reefer did this to me..

As most of you know I broke my tank down about a month or two ago. Sandra (RC name buckeyenewbie) came over and we made a deal and she decided to take all I had left rocks corals fish etc.. At the end of the breakdown there was a neon goby, yellow watchman goby, and sixline wrasse we couldnt catch and the water was so cloudy and dirty from the breakdown that we just gave up and I told her I would try to catch them in the next few days. I had 3 corals that were already spoken for by other reefers a huge rock with over 25 orange ricordias a huge neon green bubble and a rare red scolymia that she said she could hold in her tank until I could come get them.

The gobies and fish dissapeared and she never made a mention or even called to care to know what happen.. I know call to come get my corals and she is demanding I give her $90 for the fish we couldnt catch or she is going to keep my corals and do what she pleases with them. She knows how much those corals are worth and still I can't believe after she volunteered to hold my corals that she would do something like that. I guess I was too trusting.

I have done alot for this community, giving tanks away, rock etc away to help newbies and to help others in need and to think in such a great community that you still have to watch out for the people who are out only for personal gain at any cost just makes my stomach turn. Sorry for the ramble and I hope Sandra (RC name Buckeyenewbie) comes to her sences and realizes that what she is doing is wrong.

Michael

PS I am on my way back to the reefing seen soon....

Wow. It seems that you can't escape the bad seeds any where in today's society. I hope that she comes to her senses as well. That is just low down. I'd like to think that she'll get hers someday. Good luck

Sorry to hear that Michael, I'll give you some SPS when your reef gets seasoned. She seemed like a nice lady too, Liz talked to her at Adam's Frag Auct. and said she was nice, Thats a Shame with a capital S. Thanks for posting so people are warned. John

Thanks guys for all the kind words. I really do think she is a nice lady I just think she is going about this all the wrong way and keeping my corals and threatening to sell if I don't show by tonight is just wrong.

Thanks John I will take you up on the sps, I think this new tank is going to be sps dominated.

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST

Wow, I don't remember the lady. but this sucks. Definitely not a pleasant situation. I'm sure we'll all remember the name. And avoid a not so friendly reef experiance.

She did seem sweet too. Hmmm They always say the devil is the first one to church on Sunday. Sorry to hear that mike. I hope it all works out.

Dude, I am totally bummed to hear that. Why would she want $90 for the fish you couldn't catch? Those fish aren't even worth that much money, let alone enough to cause this kind of behavior. Hopefully you will get your corals back.

I know Sondra and she is a pleasant addition to the community. You guys need to discuss the issue and come to a resolution.

While I don't agree with holding your corals ransom, she did pay for those fish as part of the package deal that you guys arranged. So there is some value to the loss that should be compinsated.

The retail value of those fish are about $15, $20, $25 = $60. Seeing that this was a package deal, those fish are likely valued at about have the retail rate.

It is just a suggestion, but you guys should work out a fair deal for this matter, because both of you are valuable to the ecommunity and I would hate to see either of you not attend the Frag Events because of fear of a bad reputation posted in this forum.

Please wotk this out!

I think Michael has already tried and Sondra shut the door on a fair resolution. It takes two people to work out a problem, throwing out a $90 by midnight demand speaks for itself. I feel this forum is here to warn others of possible problems.

I was there when they made their "Deal " and the deal was in Mikes words "...those are already sold so could you hold them for a night or two because i sold you my light too and they wouldn't be happy" not this long. He also said he would "take her" the fish when he caught them. And is he not able to pick up a phone himself and call her to let her know when he will get the corals?Dont missunderstand me Mike is a great guy but please get the facts straight.

Actually I called a few times and no answer or call back. I never asked for her to hold them for a day or two that would make no sence corals are fine for a day or two with no light as long as you have circulation. As for the fish I told her if I caught them I would call her and maybe we could meet.

If I remember correct she is your aunt and she let you borrow the money to come buy my tank and when you came to get the tank we found quite a few nassarious snails and other things and you said "I am not telling my aunt about these because I am keeping them for my tank".

I remember the day like it was yesterday and I agree your a nice guy too but like I said before all im asking for is a fair compromise as suggested by cerreta in an earlier post thats all.

Michael

I spoke with Sondra at the ACRO event yesterday and I was surprised with her comments.

She feels that your not calling her promptly and not finding the fish are justification to keep the corals as compensation. She was not interested in compromising at all.

I was very dissapointed by this action. I suggested she contact you to work out a fair deal and she stated that she was content the way things are and has no intentions of calling you to work out a different deal.

This sounds very ugly!

The way I see it, is that she agreed to "hold the corals" for you and admits to that. Therefore, the corals should be returned in good faith as agreed upon and the loss of fish should be dealt with separetely.

I have serious issues with pwople that display a lack of integrity. This is a prime example. Sorry Mike.

You can get the police involved if interested or even a civil lawsuit.

..... Just my two cents. I would be very upset if this happened to me.

Sounds like she figured on keeping the very vauable corals from the get-go, thats what my first impression was when Mike said she was not answering calls. Thanks for the RC Sierra Vista/Tucson Forum at least some of us are aware of local scammers. Shame, Shame, Shame!!!

Even after all the bashing, which seems to have been well-placed, the smartest thing for this lady to do would be to make ammends. Otherwise, I don't see how she would have the gall to show up to another meeting.

I don't know what I would do without my local community. They have been so helpful to me, and my tank wouldn't look anything like it does without the help of local reefers. I couldn't afford it.

One more thought for buckeyenewbie...
Isolating yourself from the group will only cost you more down the road if you plan to stay in the hobby, much more than those corals could possibly be worth.

I have spoken with Sondra concerning the issue and I can tell you all that there are always 2 sides to a story. Never put 100% stock into what someone says without always getting both sides of the story. Sondra was at the meeting and Mike was not. She has, and continues, to be active and not hide. I will not comment anymore on the subject

I would encourage the active participants of ACRO to not get involved with this issue anymore and let Mike and Sondra work things out amiccably. If other people on RC want to continue the outburst and feed into the argument, go ahead. There is nothing I can do to stop you, nor would I even try. However, with active participants of ACRO, we want to set a better example so others reading this board will not get the idea that we are a combative group one-siding with someone who has a complaint.

Thank you ACRO members for understanding! Good luck to Sondra and Mike getting things resolved!
