I can't do this hobby unless I get a house

I've spent >$1000 to get all the equipment I have , and spent months reading up on the hobby.

BUT I can't even run my overflow at night without getting management called on me. I worked all day on getting the noises to a minimum , and just when I thought they were as low as they could go my neighbor starts banging on my floor.

I want to get out of this apartment complex so bad right now. My lease is up in september and I really want to have a somewhere else to go when that comes up.

I pay $780/month in rent for a 1 bedroom in cordova.
I'm hoping for <$100 more I could OWN a small house in a decent neighborhood.

I am 26 , my credit probablly sucks , and if I do get a house I would probablly have to get someone to co-sign.

I always keep a eye on the reality sites and I know there are some decent looking houses in my neighborhood for under $130k. 3 bedroom + 2 bath , small houses but plenty for me.

How much are you guys house payments?
With insurance , property taxes and all the other bills , would it be possible to afford a decent house for <$900?

It's not just the overflow , it's all the noises.
The overflow was making the most noise , until I played with it this morning , somehow I got the gurgeling to stop. I also fixed the noises coming from the sump intake. So instead of turning it off , like I normally do , I actually ran it all day , and about 10pm he starts banging on the floor.
I swear I had those noises so low , I couldn't hear anything from my bedroom 5ft away.

I was going to try a stockman pipe or a hofer gurlge buster , I'll give that a try , but I'm not feeling luckey and I don't think it will be enough.

Not to mention I killed the skimmer pump acouple of days ago , which seemed to be the loudest part. If I got that back up and running I'd never be able to run it.

I hate the people that live above and below me.

It can all be taken care of. If tanks were that loud no one would have one. Just take you time and you'll get it sorted.

I'm going to try and get it quieter.
But I think you would be surprised at how quiet I had it. I even had the overflow covered with plastic to muffle the water sounds.

The fan that comes inside the halide fixture was making more noise than the tank.

Something about the sound of water moving , it must travel through the walls well.

When the guy above me got fed up he filled some kind of container with water and walked to where my tank was , then he shook it up till I turned off the sump pump , killing the overflow noises. I could hear him pretty well.

You must have some kind of finicky neighbors or some really really thin walls for it to be loud enough for that.

I do have "some" noise from mine but my wife and I both like the sound of the water as long as it is not tioo much.

I am like dave though surely if you keep working at it you can get it down where the neighbors want complain.

change to a bottom floor apt when we lived in an apartment I had a rottweiler and the downstairs neighbor went nuts, they worked with us and we moved for like a 100 redecorating fee.

I wonder if they are hearing pumps. My tank is in the bonus room above the garage, and when I am in the garage, I can here either my skimmer pump or the return pump vibrating the ceiling slightly. You may not be able to hear it in your room, but if someone in a silent room trying to sleep in the room below, may hear that humming/vibration. Just a thought.

go down stairs to your neighbor and ask him to let you in to see what type of noise he is hearing. sometimes just the effort of trying can do wonders

just keep your cool no matter what is said. in fact try to set up the meeting with the manager, yourself and him. do this in the managers office. i was young and hot headed once. time has taught me the right way to handle things.

This sucks , now is the time to get a house , with the housing market as it is. But there is no way I could get one unless I could get my mother to cosign and she won't.

I was really hoping we had a realtor or something in the club who could give me advice towards a first home.

I guess I don't have enough money to get a house though. I'll have to stay in renter's hell.

I've been looking at rentals and foreclosures since last night.

Most of the renters in the area want atleast $1000 , and they don't allow smoking inside. Or they don't allow dogs and cats.

I can afford about $850. Gonna keep looking.

OR ...use some of the time, energy, and money that looking for ,moving into, and paying for a new place to live would require and put it toward getting your tank set-up in a way that would not be problem for your neighbors and save up to actually buy a house.

I'm sure you're frustrated but your tank situation is probably easily solved after all, to use an over used saying, it's not "Rocket Science." Just look around and you'll realize that. DOH! :D

From what I think I see in your pictures I can see some sources for noise and I'd be glad to help you out. I notice you are using a siphon over flow. I hope you have a good grasp of the ins and outs of that set-up because if you think the neighbors are upset now wait till it starts to "rain" on them while they are inside.
