For what it's worth, I am an RC member and while I do see a head loss calculator link on the home page, when I click it, the page into which one inserts the relevant data (length of pipe, number of fittings, etc.) is not showing a calculate button for me anyway. Perhaps something got left out / broken when the site upgrade occurred?
thanks Ken, that is exactly what i mean i can not calculate anything without the "calculate" button.
Yeah, Tom i wanted to know the head loss for one of my return pumps it's a Iwaki 40LRXT rated at 1250 max GPH at 0 head. but it will go up 5 1/2 feet with about 4 90's and 2 union cuplings. It will flow through my chiller than up to the tank that is the plan. I should get the pump in the mail today. I'll be updatting my 180 build thread soon with lots of pics, it has been stale for a while so i can collect equiptment and make $. This is not cheap! but it will be a nice tank when i am done. I am shooting for water in a month or two!
Got the sea swirls and return pumps this month
Sea swirls- 2 1" shipped $250.
Gen x30 - $80 shipped
Iwaki Iwaki 40LRXT - $140 Shipped
all used for a short time.....so over $450 spent just this month....reefing is killing me!
While i am at it....
This is what i have left on the buy list
6212.50 tunze magnets for wave box
ice cap 660 ballast with wiring harness
2 36 inch t5 retro kit
2 72 or 32 inch vho retro kit
3/4 inch loc line
bulkheads
1 inch union valves at BRS
3 lumenarc mini steath reflectors SE 250
3-250 RADIUMS
The 40 is a very nice pump, so according the chart at Iwaki you will be pump at 1100 g/h at 6' and then factor in the union and the corners, I think you still be looking at 1000 gal/hr that is plenty for your size tank. I am only getting about 700-800gal/hr for my return and my tank is fine.
The rest of your list is looking awesome, your will have a very nice set up.
Thanks Tom it is really hard not to break the bank and just go for it...i think i need to post an add "will work for reef equiptment" ahah. Thanks for looking it up for me. I plan to buy all my bulkheads and union next week with the BRS discount.

Freedman has a lot of bulk heads you need so you might want to check them out, if they have it then you can get them faster. Ace hardware also have them too but they are a bit more expensive, they do have a good selection of rubber rings and things like that. What size do you need? I might have some laying around.
Shane, I believe this is specific to IE8. Click the "Compatibility View" button / icon immediately to the right of the address bar and the page will refresh with the Submit button accessible.
Shane check BRS. The 1.5" bulkheads here at ace were sch80 and they were 34.99 each!! I think BRS will also have your loc line. I also have a bunch of locline.
I am using firefox 3.5.3 and it has a submit button at the bottom.
and it works for me, ran a fake test Total losses are 30 feet of head pressure, or 12.96 PSI. with a flow rate of 0 GPH. Process took 13 iterations.
thanks guys, I'll get it figured out, i should get the pump today in the mail.
Owen i may want to buy your lock line. I won't know I know i want to "Y" it off the sea swirl. I didn't know the 1" will only do 90 degrees not 180. So i will "Y" it to 1/2 or 3/4 depending if i want more or less flow. So when the time comes I'll let you know should be some time soon.
