Well, upon seeing the mantis shrimp cheekily bashing barnacles on the rock out of his hole I quickly took out his favorite rock, and then the others, and trapped him in the other container! Although, I swear I hear the same tapping noise now that he is out...Don't know if I am just paranoid or if there is another one....

Could be a pistol shrimp. Pretty common as well, but you'll never see it--harmless. could be another mantis too...
