I checked out this guys tank.......

A guy I work with. I told him I'll check it out after work one day. So, that was today. Pretty nice setup, 75g with sump/fuge, mainly softies, zoos, some SPS.
So, I'm checking out his fuge and I notice these flat worm looking things. I don't know if they're good or bad. I didn't see any of them in his tank, only in the section where he had chaeto/calupera.
The only way I can describe them is: they look like a ghost with almost a split tail? See through and it looks like it has a small dot, like it's stomach?
What are they called and are they good or bad?
He offered me some frags, but didn't take them because I didn't know what they were.

The clear ones aren't supposed to be harmful, but still not desirable.
Orange ones are bad.
He should ditch that calerpa too, and stick w/ just chaeto.
It can easily overun tank.

I would imagine the reason you don't see them in the display is because he probably has a fish that is eating the ones that make it into the display. You could always treat the frags he gives you and not have to worry about them.

Don,

Your wrasses would keep them clean. But if you don't feel comforable. Place them in your frag tank and get some Sailferts Flat worm exit from Todd at SF. You can treat the tank and its perfectly safe for the corals....

You can also freshwater dip to get the flatworms off before placing in your tank. I would still quarantine after dipping. The ones inside the holes of therock, if the frag is attached to a rock, might not have been removed. Quarnatining and freshwater dippin gagain should get all of them.

I wouldn't worry about them. They tend to come and go in my tank. Never in proportion to what red flatworms do. At worst they are thought to eat pods. I wouldn't mess with my tank over them.

While it's true that flatworm exit is safe for corals, the dying/melting flatworms can cause quite a problem. After you treat, make sure you keep an eye on things and have water ready for a change. I believe the instructions will tell you how much water to change after you apply.
