I couldn't resist this lubbock's

Stopped by the LFS this morning and was only planning to pick up some food, but I saw this little guy and couldn't resist. He is acclimating in my homemade specimen container for right now. He is one of the prettiest lubbock's i have seen in a long time in my area.
He is about half the size of my other wrasses so I am hoping he will be ignored.

I have yet to witness any aggressive overtures, only what appears to be curiosity. If this keeps up I will probably release him at lights out tonight.

Nice Lubbocks. They're beautiful, relatively inexpensive and underrated.

I totally agree. I have been waiting for a nice one to show up. Now I just hope my male hooded wrasse decides to play nice. He is the only one that has shown any interest in the new guy.

Great fish! I love mine...he's almost at the three year mark with me!

I agree! Do you have a photo of yours?

I released him for the last feeding just before lights out, and so far so good. He got right in there and got his share of the food. My male hooded gave a chase or two, but nothing serious yet.

He is definitely a beauty!

IME it is hard to find a healthy specimen as they are caught in the phillipines. I had one that did great and jumped into my return pump :( I have tried three times to replace him and all have withered away. The last two I tried died within two days in my quarantine. I have since looked elsewhere for wrasses.

Good luck they are one of the prettiest wrasses there is IMO.

Gorgeous color on yours!

Mine is very mellow. Almost too mellow....I have had to remove 3 or 4 other wrasses I've tried with him. They all end up chasing the lubbocks into the overflow :( My recent Cebu Pylei has been a perfect match though!

Here he is, normal colors:

OMG, he is awesome. Are you keeping a female with him?

No, he's always been alone :(

BTW, entomologist?! That's cool! Used to keep mantids.... years ago. They have some incredible ones nowadays though! :eek2:

EEGGGGHHHH. Such nice fish in the tank, and you didnt quarantine? Sorry to sidetrack, but I dont get why people would do this.

Yeah, I am known as the bug lady in my family. I work with Asian Long-horned beetles, but I love mantids!

It is good to know that the lubbocks will keep its color without a female. I can't wait to observe the flashing.

It has been my experience that fairy wrasse do much better when placed directly into the display tank. There is some risk with doing this, but I feel it is worth it. I almost always purchase my fish from a quality source and have not had any problems.

Famous last words. I just see this too far too often. You obviously have a wonderful collection of fish. I dont get why you would risk it all to quickly add a fish. I ahve put fairy and flasher wrasses through quarantine many many times without problem. As for the quality source, it doesnt take much to infect a fish. Even teh best faciltiies in the world have disease.

But, I am beating a dead horse. Nice looking fish. Good luck.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. This thread wasn't about qt procedures, but I do appreciate when others point out when I am wrong or possibly making a mistake. I believe no matter how long we have been in this hobby we all still have much to learn.

I am not opposed to qt and I think in most cases it is better to isolate all new fish. However, I do feel there are certain species that don't do well in the traditional set up used for qt. I would like to set up a more permanent qt that would be like a reef tank in every way except there would be no corals present. I would use this to simply watch and observe new fish and ensure they were feeding well and showed no signs of disease. This is my plan when I upgrade to a larger system next year. For the moment all of my fish are healthly and doing well. There is no aggression or disease observed.
I don't think you are beating a dead horse, but I don't think everyone in this hobby will ever agree on everything whether it be to quarantine or to do water changes.

The little lubbocks is out and about swimming with all of the other fish, not shy ay all, and eating like a pig. I am hopeful that he will continue to do well. Thanks for the advice.

I need to get the camera out and get some better pics of him and my bipartius. They are both getting nice and plump lately.

What a great looking wrasse, it was the first type of fairy wrasse I ever got and is in my top 5 overall fairies. Also I noticed that fairy wrasses do better when not QT'd.

yes that is what I meant, :D

beautiful fish.. I had one and it lasted 3 days.. hopefully will survive the next time I get the chance to own one.. do you house any other leopards in the same tank?

Nice looking fish. Lubbocks are soo interesting. It is amazing how they very sooooo much from fish to fish. I have never seen 2 alike! Here is a picture of mine:

He is definitely the king of my tank. He fights with the royal gamma a little bit when he gets to close to the Lubbock's territory.

Beautiful Lubbock's biodarwin. I am loving my little guy. It is so funny to watch him getting in there with my big guys at feeding time. I got some pics today that I will post soon.
