Hi, I've had this guy in my tank for a few months....originally he was just stony not sure whether sps or LPS....now he has this rim of soft tissue that moves in the current. I originally thought that he was an echinophyllia, but he doesn't have the nodules that my other echinophyllias have had...and they haven't had the soft tissue rim.....I've noticed that over the last week or two the rim seems to be lightening...if someone could tell me what he is and what his preferences are I'd be forever greatful.
Thanks,

It does appear to be Echinophyllia to me. Nice thing is most similar looking genera have about the same care requirements, even if it doesnt turn out to be Echino.
This particular coral is a good illustration of why designating something as LPS or SPS doesnt make sense- there is no break, and there is no scientific difference between the two groups. That being said, most people would treat this like a 'LPS' meaning moderate light and water flow. They tend to develop more intense colors with a higher K type bulb, under moderate light conditions. Very resiliant to damage and changeing environments IME
