I was in That Fish Place and saw this clown. I knew right away that I had to have it. The price was right and he looked real healthy. They had him I.D.'d as a Sabae clown. I've never seen one, so I can't be sure. What do you think? I don't think it's a Clark's.

Saddleback huh? Do you see these offered fairly often? Mine paired up fairly quickly with a long tentacle anemone. I've got to say he has quickly become one of my favorite fish.

We see them here in B'more quite often. They are usually sold as "black percula". I think they are awesome looking clowns.

Agreed A. Polymnus aka Black Saddles They are great fish. Very unique swimming pattern, they can be very skiddish and prone to popeye so be careful around the tank at night.

Joshua1023: What type of anemone is that underneath the clown?

M. doreensis.

What do you mean?

Saddlebacks typically have a very pronounced "bobbing" pattern to their swimming. They bob up and down alot - especially when they are feeling threatened (like when they are over their anemone and you approach them).

They bob more than A Percula or Ocellaris?

A LOT more. Their bobbing pattern is more pronounced also. They are one of my favorite clowns for that reason.

My lfs had it as a long tentacle. It was only 2" in diameter when I purchased it for $20. After the introduction of what I now realize is a saddleback, the anemone tripled in size in a matter of 8 or 9 days. Is this for certain a long tentacle? I've never seen one, besides the one I've got, with such a beutiful green body and cream or pink tentacles (depending on how inflated he is).

The common name for M. doreensis is long tentacle anemone or LTA. Yours looks very healthy. They are sand anemones, so yours is perfectly positioned in the aquarium; buried up to its oral disk in the substrate with tentacles sticking out.
