What does everyone think about creating a running "ID this" thread to assist those who are seeking identification of their polyps/colonies? Good idea, bad idea? If it's a good one, maybe someone can start such a thread after the poll is completed in 14 days.

I'm not sure about an ID thread... An ID forum is Probably a better idea... But, just so long as this whole forum isn't taken up by ID threads, I'm game...

I think it is a good idea as long as the ID requests can be kept to that thread. The only problem I can foresee is the ability of users, and in the end mods to keep these posts to that thread. It may require a lot of maintenance and upkeep if users unknowingly start a new ID thread.

In the end anything to clean up all those requests will help! Good idea Mucho.

i think an ID thread is a great idea to limit the clutter of multiple ID threads in the forum.

only prob is. getting people to actually look for the stickied ID thread, and then look through it. JMO but seems like alot of people are lazy and just want someone to tell them, instead taking the time/effort to figure it out for themselves.

while for it, I think the probability of people that want id's posting in that thread would be about 1%, and would likely add more headache in upkeep than just ignoring the id threads in the first place...

As a Team Member, I've watched and read both sides of the arguement. RC's objective, if I can speak for them, is to try and accomodate everyone as much as possible, to a certain extent and within limits. Starting the thread will allow reefers to post their request for identification in one physical loaction. Those who are into IDing them, can now readily chim in quickly with an answer. I don't see where there's a maint. issue for anyone. I don't think it would be any different than a "POST YOUR BLUES HERE" thread. It's a simple Q & A. If the ID thread is something everyone wants, and the mods agree, then they would simply make sure with maybe a reminder that all ID request should be posted in that thread and not as a new thread in the Zoanthid forum. Does that make since or did I talk myself in a circle, ( LOL ) Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it needs to be a sticky as that thread will most like stay very active and always on the front page of this forum. Just my 2 cents and nothing more.

I think the maintenance issues would come in since stickies are easily overlooked, so there would still be daily threads on ID'ing, only now people would get angry with the posters, telling them to check their eyes and look at the stickies, etc... and would likely cause more aggravation than just choosing to ignore the threads, in my opinion

I mean, I think it would end up that the only people that would know about the thread wouldn't be likely to post in it, since they'd know where to look for the id's...
just my 2 cents

perhaps a simple locking of individual threads with a link and polite canned explanation to the ID thread would keep them down?

i like the idea.. there is a ID this SPS thread... why not zoa?

Because with zoos they're all just stupid made up names? :p

I'd love to see an ID thread so we don't have to see the forum cluttered. But with RC charging people to search it's already cluttered with the same thing over and over again anyhow.

Haha, too bad we can't make a sticky thread for all the stickies so we can actually see all the new threads on one page...

:D

Seriously, this board is full of stickies.
But an ID sticky would help keep some people from losing their minds from seeing another ID thread.:blown:

I am for it also. But why not make a forum with separate id threads for sps, lps, zoos...ect. This way each has it's own place.

So we have the following options,

1. A seperate ID forum

2. A floating ID thread ( Not a Sticky )

3. Make it a Sticky

4. Place it in the Zoanthid Information Draft

Sounds like another poll, LOL

I like Option 3. Make it a Sticky.

1. A seperate ID forum.
--- This idea probably wouldn't work as making a forum just for IDing zoas is too much work for such a small demand. If you did a general ID forum and had a zoanthid sticky in it, that would work.

2. A floating ID thread ( Not a Sticky)
--- I think the key to getting peoples attention is to sticky the ID thread, at least at first. If you don't sticky then it may fall into a forums depths.

4. Place it in the Zoanthid Information Draft
--- I did not even realize this thread was stuck at the top of the til someone pointed it out in the "Stickies" thread. I think having it loud and visible is the key.

There's a theory called Ockham's Razor- the simplest method is likely the best and truest.

Also called K.I.S.S... LOL
