I dont know which anemone to get, please help

Hello all,
Im new to this forum but have always read peoples opinions in different threads for a while now. I have a question about my tank. I have an ocellaris clownfish and a pajama cardinal in a 10 gallon tank with a couple of mushrooms. I recently set it up and was wondering what anemone would be able to 1.) Fit okay in the tank, and 2.) host my clownfish. Ive done some research and it seems like the only anemones that will host are way to big for my tank. What else can I do? Its only a ten gallon because its on my computer desk and its something nice for me to look at while I am on it. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
I currently have a t5 light setup. 1-18w 10k and 1-18w actinic. Filtration is a fluval 205. All my levels are okay as well just had the water tested at a local store. Thanks everyone! :)
 
First thing is you are going to want to wait until your tank is older. Most people say a year old, others say 6 months old, with good maintenance habits.

A 10 gallon is pretty small, and will have more swings in parameters, making keeping an anemone extremely difficult. I don't know if it's impossible, but if it goes to hell, it could crash your tank.

I'm sure others will chime in.
 
I have a 10 gal with a green bubble tip in it. I have to Picasso clowns hosting it. You need good lighting and you HAVE to do weekly water changes. The anemone can lose there color so quickly. I'm in the process of getting the color back.
 
A bta can be managed if you plan on cloneing it or having one take over your tank. That said, keeping a nem long term is like keeping Sps, stability and clean water is key. But then again some say if you can keep a Sps nano tank you can take on anything lol.

If you don't know which anemone to get, and only have a 10 g tank sitting on your desk (meaning no sump with minimal filter capacity and no heater that is protected) you should not have a clownfish-hosting anemone.
10 g on a desk without heater will not have temp stability for sensitive reef animals. Having in tank heater is a no-no for anemone. The condition of the tank is not optimal and any anemone you have will wander and will be kill by either PH or heater.
 
I understand completely that I need to have the tank more established before adding anything else in. I appreciate everyones input, thank you. @OrionN im not understanding you about the heater comment. I have a heater in the tank tucked in a corner and the temp is steady between 78-80, havent seen it any higher than that.
 
The anemone will craw on to the heater. If this is the case when the heater turn on, you will have a dead anemone because the foot will get fried when this happen. Your snails will get kill also. Heater should not be in the tank where animals can craw on to it.

When you snail or anemone is kill (when not if) you are going to come back here and post that I told you so. Right?

You can always find people said anything here on Reefcentral. Whether or not to believe them is up to the reader.
 
I would like to understand how the intank heater kills them? I knew non filtered power hads are killers but never heard of the heater issue before.
 
I do not agree about the in-tank heater being a large concern. A bigger concern would be a powerhead. However, if you have a very high watt heater, maybe you'd see an issue. I wouldn't be concerned about the heater issue.

Before you write this you should try to grab a heater in your tank 10-15 seconds after it turn on. You can even hold it first and then turn it on. You can always let go when it get too hot. It won't kill you but certainly will destroy the foot of any snail or anemone that is on it at the time.
 
okay so your saying it would destroy the foot, so as long as the op had it covered that would not be an issue. fyi i have grabbed a heater that i thought had been off long enough to cone out the water and it was very warm to say the least. this heater had been off for a few minutes so i hate to think how hot it would be if it had been on for a few minutes.
 
Not to seem like a jerk but the heater is starting to get a little off topic lol. I can cover it easily so that it wouldn't be a problem. Any other suggestions on what an Ocellaris clown would be able to be hosted by that would be okay in my tank?
 
There isn't any clownfish hosting anemone that you can keep in a 10 g tank on a desk like your's. As you can see above, there will be people who say that you can keep this or that but just avoid it.
Why not keep a pair of prawn goby and a pistol shrimp. There are many shrimp gobies that stay small and would be perfect for a 10 g aquarium. If anemone is what you want then get your heater cover and keep a Maxi S. tapetum carpet with a few anemone shrimp.

:) No clown fish hosting anemone for you :)
