Hey,

I picked up a batch of liverock from a LFS fr a new tank setup. Only thing in this brand new setup was sand and dry/base rock. I got one big football piece and one small...the size of a junior football. The point is the smaller piece looked like it was from a totally different batch than the larger. It had what I think was a plug of sorts on it. Both pieces were heavy purple. The LFS advertises their liverock as man made and pest free.

When I put the pieces in last night under teh lights I almost immediately noticed what I thought was aipstasia creeping out from several different holes in the smaller piece.

After some consulting I am quite sure that is what it is (see pic).

I cant upload due to the server issues but assume it is aipstastia...do I take it back to the LFS? Its not big $$ I just dont know what to do. i shoudl at least let them know.

Just get some Joe's Juice or any other commercially available for aiptasia and inject any that pop up.

Im just wondering if this is worth trying to return to them to get an exchange or is aipstasia not viewed as necessarily bad to the LFS selling LR?

I would just chuck that piee out before going throough buying stuff to fix it and then hope it was fixed. From my reseach, killing off aiptasia is not necessarily easy and my brother just lost is well aged 250 gallon system to a complete infestation. It might be 15-20 bucks worth.

Wait till midnight drive to their shop and throw the rock through their window, thats the accepted return method.
Seriouslly though if your not happy take it back any good lfs wants happy customers no matter what. Personally I would just treat it like the other posted suggested.

I had the same thought in my head as I was waiting for this page to load. :)

Anyway...Joe's juice and other feed/boil/burn methods IMO are a last resort only if removing the rock is not possible. Take it back, or take it out and dig out huge holes with a screw driver to make sure they're gone. I've even gone so far as letting rock dry out for a few months and tossing it back in...it will become live again. But considering you paid for live rock, I'd take it back.

BTW...I once saw an LFS selling "anemone rock" for a special price...its was covered with Mojano... Technically they were correct...but d*mn!

You can always pluck them off with tweezers, if they pull back into a hole in the rock, fill it with super glue. Thats what I do. Works every time.

I tried a way recommended from a friend and it worked, i just sprayed a couple of them i found in my fiji rock with Calcium Chloride with a small syringe.

Aiptasia will come in on live rock and even hides on frags. If the rock is covered with aiptasia, I would contact the store. But if you going to have a saltwater aquarium, it'll be something you'll have to deal with. Boiling r/o water seems to work well. My experience with joe's juice and aiptasia x arent' good. I find them ineffective. I suggest injecting boiling r/o water or bergia Nudibranchs. Hope this helps.

I inject them with kalkwasser paste. No big deal, helps your calcium and it is just something we deal with...
