I got the bugs and i need some advice

I know this has prolly been posted a thousand times but i would like some advice from you all specific to my situation.

I laid my kids down to bed tonight and went to view my tank(s), something drew my attention to this stick of acro that was given to me some time ago. It is and always has been bleach white with 0 polyps, i figured it was normal at best, or maybe it was stressed but was getting better because this acro was growing despite its state. So seeing growth and no alge that builds up on a dead coral i left it alone.

Tonight i am looking at it because for whatever reason it did not look so hot, its bleach white with no polyps to begin with i dont know how it gets worse but, it looked bad. I got up real close and was checkin it out to make sure there was no recession and BAM i see the red bugs on it.

I right away went to a colony that i purchased a few months back that has been loosin color and there they are again. By now my hearts pounding and im feeling dirty like ive cought some disease, im freakin out plain and simple, you could say i was buggin.

I have a frag system that was just recently set up. I have acros in there as well, i think i have 4 acro in my display system, all of wich can easily be removed for the most part. I JUST put 2 acros in there i got from a bud that tore down his reef and i put the rest of his coral in my frag system.

Im going to be realistic, cross contamination is very possible, because i swapped stuff out of my display once i got the frag system ready for coral. AND if they came from my recent additions from my buddy, its the same case cause i put his coral in both tanks.

I dont want to destroy my shrimps and pods and crabs in my display system if i dont have to. How long can they live without an acro if i take the acro out and just treat them in the frag system.

What else will they eat on?

Grrrrrrrrrr

Any help is more than welcome.

Also what is the best way to go about getting this interceptor?

I have a very large dog but i dont want to take him in for a visit and pay the charge for that just to get the meds.

Just go talk to your vet and tell him what you need the pills for. Is your dog on Interceptor to prevent heartworms? I would hope so.

Usually exotic animal vets are your best bet. Ask a local reptile store who they use.

Im reading a massive thread about awfw and redbugs are mentioned alot. It seems interceptor kills inverts and the acro crabs may actually be keeping my stuff from getting the aefw, i dont want to kill them.

Im thinking of a pipe fish in both tanks, both systems already contain wrasses.

I see very few redbugs, how would you guys handle this?

I actually had very few RB...none even caused the corals to have problems. I treated nonetheless....why wait for a total infestation, increasing odds of resistence? I did lose my acro crabs though :(

I aggressively dip acros with Lugols/turkey baster/etc, so I'm pretty sure I would have caught any AEFW. So far, so good.

I went sps crazy, I wish i hadnt.

A tank full of rics and zoos would make me happy with less headache.

I am thinking of fragging everything down to nothing and saving my acro crabs. Then treat all the frags in the prop system and once im sure everything is cleared up, sell it all.
Im worried once i kill off the few bugs and many acro crabs that then the AEFW will take up residence. Id rather keep softies than imerse myself in treatment for months and have the predators come right back a few months later.

Has there been any cases of complete and total LONG TERM eradication?

Thanks for your concern. Yes he is on heartworm treatment but it is not interceptor. That is another concern of mine, how am i going to tell the vet that, yea even tho hes on heartworm meds, i think we should switch them to interceptor. I cant lie to people, its just not im me.

Im really confused right now and to be honest i dip my zoos but never once dipped my sps. It is my fault im in this situation, even if someone knows they have pests and still sell or trade with you it is your own responsibility to quarentine and dip accordingly.

OMG i just seen thousands of them on one coral, its one i got from my buddy. i dont see how i ever missed them, its covered.

Hey, did you read the thread Rays posted? I was totally freaked too. Relax :) It's not that big a deal. Just do the three treatments. Don't worry about the acro crabs, you'll forget you even had them. I actually saved one by pulling it out while it was stunned from the interceptor. It's up to you.

What makes you think you have AEFW? Have you seen them/evidence? Concentrate on what you know you have, like the RB.

What you could do like others is print Dustins treatment and take it to your vet and show it to him. Usually they will sell it to you. If not try another vet.

I have a small dog, and she's on Interceptor, but they will sell me the large dog Interceptor when I told them what I needed it for.
I just bought a pack yesterday. I keep it on hand for treating any incoming corals or frags. :)

No i actually see no evidence of AEFW at all and i just looked again. Thats how i just spotted the 50,000 redbugs on one coral. It just seems that once people beat the bugs they get the worms. I dont know if its true or not but ive read it on here a few times just since last night. I knew this coral was not extending its polyps like it should and that it had goten very dark in his tank, i cant belive i ever missed something like that. The whole damn coral is COVERED! it looks orange when ya get up close there are so many.

I have no doubts now when or where i got these redbugs. I have never seen an infestation like this even in the worst pics ive seen.

What should i do? I have FWE and several iodine dips here. should i dip this coral?

I moved everything sps from my display to the frag system except my monti caps and a pink mille and some birdsnest, pocillipora and stylophora. Should i move them as well to be on the safe side? I dont have treatment meds yet but i want to get on starving them out of my display. I have a full blown problem here and im to the point of calling up my buddy and letting loose on him. Im just really disturbed over this.

Total nonsense.

OK

I have the interceptor in my hands. I have one question before i get down to business.

I have a nice clam in the tank i am treating, is he ok in there? I know it does not seem to affect the fish and coral but i never really seen any info on clams.
