I hate this stuff too. I was using hakari Mysis before, but after hearing all the rave reviews I bought a pack of PE to try out. I also have mostly smaller fishes and they eat it just fine. My problem with it is that there is less number of shrimp per cube than Hakari. I feed 1/4 cube per day of Hakari before, so I also use 1/4 cube of PE. Any more and I seem to run into cyano problems.
Anyways, a quarter Hakari cube usually contain 4-5 shrimps or decent size shrimp pieces which my fishes can share. A quarter cube of PE usually has 1 or 2 huge whole shrimp, and the rest is just filler made of guts and what-not. So 1 or 2 lucky fish that day will get the big shrimp, the rest will have to scavenge for tiny specs of food, which is probably meant more for corals and filter feeders rather than fish.
So, for my 42g tank with 5 smaller fishes, the Hakari was a much better option, although the fish will readily eat both products.
