I hate pe mysis, anyone else?

So I have been trying to use pe mysis because of the better nutritional content, but seriously hardly anything even wants to eat it because it's so big! And I'm just not going to sit there and individually cut these shrimp in half to get something to eat them. I'm switching back to the other stuff, atleast until the fish get bigger and aren't freaking scared of it!

One of the best things I got for food reasons was a mini blender. Some times I'll toss a few cubes in give them a quick blending and it's a lot better.

I make a concoction as my coral food, with multiple types of food, turn it all into a paste and then refreeze.

My baby Wyoming whites have no problem grabbing pieces a third of their body size and swimming around with half of it sticking out of their mouths.

The only one that eats them whole is the female clown, and she's about 2.5 inches. The other fish will occasionally pick off of them but when I chop them up most go to waste. It just isn't worth the hassle to me. I feel like this pack may just be huge though, because I had bought it once before and I don't remember them being this big. The closest fish store to me that carries them is 1.5 hours away, so I buy a few packs. But normally I use the hikari ones that I get at petsmart. These are easily triple the size of those. I have clowns, blennies, chromis, 6 line wrasses, and jawfish currently. The wrasse chews them up but honestly can only eat one of them they are so big

We have fish of every size. For that reason we mix PE Mysis and Larrys Reef Frenzy. This keeps everyone happy.

Yes, once they are larger you will not be able to get them away from it.. I mix my food also, and even the smallest fight over it..

I found using a micro plane grater works great on frozen food for the little ones. I have to chop stuff for my clowns that are still tiny at less than an inch.

I hate this stuff too. I was using hakari Mysis before, but after hearing all the rave reviews I bought a pack of PE to try out. I also have mostly smaller fishes and they eat it just fine. My problem with it is that there is less number of shrimp per cube than Hakari. I feed 1/4 cube per day of Hakari before, so I also use 1/4 cube of PE. Any more and I seem to run into cyano problems.

Anyways, a quarter Hakari cube usually contain 4-5 shrimps or decent size shrimp pieces which my fishes can share. A quarter cube of PE usually has 1 or 2 huge whole shrimp, and the rest is just filler made of guts and what-not. So 1 or 2 lucky fish that day will get the big shrimp, the rest will have to scavenge for tiny specs of food, which is probably meant more for corals and filter feeders rather than fish.

So, for my 42g tank with 5 smaller fishes, the Hakari was a much better option, although the fish will readily eat both products.

Also, do you pre-rinse your PE before feeding? If you do, this could be a reason why your fish might not like it.

Yes I do because it clouds the water and I'm using it mainly in the qt tank to get the fish eating and there are no filter feeders to get the rest of it so it decays in the water

I'm with you martini. Ive tried pe for nutrition but none of my fish were interested. So I used to feed corals =)

You guys must have some connoisseur fish! There isn't a fish in my tank that won't eat PE mysis. I feed one cube of it and one of Hikari. They will abandon the Hikari to fight over the PE.
