I hate to report this..TROPICAL TREASURES has burned down!

Don (the owner) is actually my girlfriends dad and he is going to be reopening the store. He is still battling with the insurance company and is most interested in moving the store to another location. From what I know from talking to him he is planning on moving to another location in the same building that he is in now or he is going to be moving to 35th ave and Greenway on the northwest corner I believe. He hopes to get a bigger place so he could possibly carry a full line of products. What I'm most excited about is that he is going to be updating all of his equipment. From what he told me he is going to be doing all T5 and LED's over the saltwater. I think that this is a blessing in disguise because the store is going to get an update and maybe a new location. It is just too bad about all the losses.

35th Ave and Greenway sounded really great until I remembered how far north Greenway is. That's almost as far from my place as Aquatouch. I still think there's a market for a truly central Phoenix store (other than the Ocean Floor).

naubound : Ty for the more official update I do hope he moves to a larger store it does not have to be huge due to over head but a slightly larger more open feel with better lighting would help it not feel so cluttered and dirty looking.
Hope he opens soon I need new bulbs for my Nova's

He needs to get out of the complex he is in. That place is a ghost town.

Honestly any location is going to be better then that run down shopping mall

I have read all these comments about how great the store is but i did not think it was all that great. Most of the time the fish were deseise ridden except for when there were a few cleaner shrimp in there with them. As far as the corals, every once in a while i would see something interesting but generally there were standard corals overpriced. There was a good selection of freshwater and reptiles but i never got the feeling that they actually cared about the lively-hood of anything in that store :( I have bought a few things from there that turned out to be quite healthy but in general i felt sorry for a lot of the stuff in there. Just my opinion.......

35th and Greenway is on the west side? How about Litchfield and Mcdowell? That's west to me.

+1
I was thinking Camelback and 99th behind HD, Thomas and Dysart, or 107th and Thomas. Litchfield and McDowell would work but, I think the only open space is where linens & things was. That would be a huge store though.

Come on guys...Litchfield??? As a native of AZ this glendale location is considered westside and it is one of the only fishy stores I have to go to. I agree that I too felt sorry for some of the livestock in there. I was very careful of what I bought. Buckets of salt and meds were safe...lol... But I still like to go to the cheap movie theater and kill time in the fishy store. I want them to take over the Halloween store next door and make one big huge pet store!!! And then turn one of the dead resturants into a coffee shop where we can all hang out chat and all that good stuff. Thats my dream...lol..

GOOD DEAL!! GLAD TO HEAR IT!!! We need him to reopen and stay on our side of town. In the amount of gas I spent to go to Tempe for 2 stores could have bought me a nice piece of coral everytime I drove out to find nothing I wanted. Tell Don we miss him and hope to see the new store very soon!!

The "What is West side?" debate continues. Here's the latest version of my list:

Far West Side: Avenue numbers above 200
West Side: Avenue numbers from 100-200
Near West Side: Avenue numbers from 49-99

Central Valley: 48th Ave to 48th St

Near East Side: Tempe and Scottsdale
East Side: Mesa from the 101 to Greenfield
Far East Side: Greenfield to where the 60 curves to the SW (roughly Goldfield Rd or Mountain View Rd)

Last time I posted this, a native EastSider helped refine that portion. If a native WestSider has some suggestions, I'm all ears.

I just want the classification system to consider downtown Phoenix to be the center of the Valley. It gets ridiculous when Apache Junction folks call Aquatouch "West Valley", and Buckeye residents call it "East Valley". The center of the Valley is not your house, everybody!

Next step: North/South.

I wasn't saying 35 Ave & Greenway was "the west side" I was just stating that because I am on the West Side, "Surprise" that 35th Ave & Greenway would be closer.. Right now have to go all the way down to freaking Aquatouch. Which is a great store, but a 45 minute drive...

 I drive all around the valley for my job, and i think this is a great location divider... Unfortunally for me, i live in the "west side" and work primarally in the "far east side"...:uzi:

I understand. 35th Ave @ Greenway is certainly closer to many West-Siders than 32nd St @ Cactus.

Cool, another vote in favor. I sympathize on the commute. Several years back, I worked in the far NW of the Houston Metro area, and worked in the far SE. Minimum 1.5 hour commute each way. Within a few months, I moved to the NE side.

I have always considered anything West of the I17 to be the westside. It is a good cut right down the middle
Using that scheme reduces the "Central Valley" to the width of I17. (That's pretty wide in some places, but still...)

To me, 7th Street and 7th Avenue aren't East Side and West Side, they're both in the middle. Maybe that comes from my having lived on 11th Street for a few years while I was learning to get around the Phoenix Metro. Being in the middle, I developed fuzzy notions of "Way Out West" and "Way Out East" as both being faraway places.

Note: I'm not going to try to force anybody else to use these terms, I just want to have a good set of boundaries for my own reference.

I agree with the above post in regards to central phoenix.
I use Central rd to consider anything "central' or downtownish" and a few miles east and west of central. At 16thst you are at the 51 freeway in some spots.
S.mountain is S.phx (to me) I have to find it to get my directions straight! lol..
Suprise starts at around 99th ave so I dont consider that west side...its Suprise...further than west side...out in what used to be the boonies! lol...past the old people in SunCity...they used to be on the outskirts of town.
I use the I-17 which is pretty much 27th ave as my west side avenues headed west....going up in #'s.
East of I-17 or 27th ave is North Phoenix....
Once you hit the 51 freeway this runs thru Paradise Valley N. Phx(around 32nd st Aqua touch area) and then downtown.. central phx as it is basically 16th st at that point in town. Thats my native perception of an ever sprawling group of cities that ran together.
I know NOTHING of Mesa,Queen Creek anything on that side of the state...lol... I need my numbered streets to keep me from getting lost! lol...
