I have a nice aneome in my nano!!

We're waiting for a red-striped Pistol...hard to find right now. I love your anemone...I would like to eventually get one for the two black/white clowns that are with the Rose gobies..they are in a 35 Hex that is tall and doesn't have Halide lighting. Just the old 1 tube plus I use a spiral 50/50 for the Chaeto (works great). How much would I need for the smallest one? I have never had one before in my tanks.

I have a beautiful red striped pistol hes awesome! Heres my little guy...

I live in the S.F bay CA and they are very easy to get here. Good Luck with getting yours, hope you find one soon.

It does look cool for now, but I also wouldn't advise or advocate nems in small tanks.
It will sting those surrounding corals, and will always be very close to intakes/PH's.
Not bagging on your setup, just stating for others coming into hobby.
I also have never heard of a nem eating a clown due to lack of feeding.
It's still not totally understood how they develop immunity to stinging, some say they rub and absorb stinging cells, some slime coat, opinions vary.
But it does seem to take time to build immunity.
It is possible that clown died from something else, and then the nem ate it after.

I have an anemone in 12g, its tiny, and it works out just fine!! Your tank is your creation. Just if you buy one go very small. Good Luck! Every reefer has adiferent opinion!

True, but some statements are born of fact and experience, not mere opinion. A tiny aquarium like that will be too small for any clown-hosting anemone, for water-quality issues alone.

A few weeks or months of the anemone surviving aren't really proof of success; it may survive for a while and then begin to gradually decline. People aren't trying to rain on your or anyone else's parade; they just want to help you all avoid some of the painful mistakes they've made.

I did have a friend who kept a nem and its clown in his12g for over 2 yrs! Then he moved and had to break down his tank. So I was speaking from observation.
Also my nem did not eat my clown, she was found dead the morning after she was looking sick.
Nothing is impossible, I understand you are only trying to help, and thanks for that! But from what I have seen it is possible to keep a nem in a small tank. I just removed one that out grew my tank, put it in my boyfriends 240, and a got a tiny nem to replace it. I will not be getting it a clown, I feel squid and shrimp and it doing great. Thats the only reason I said that I thoguht it was okay it for leoristo to give it a try. But in the end its all personal choice.

It's as much personal choice as say keeping a great dane in a condo, sure, can be done, just don't advise it.
And it's not something I'd promote if I did.
Velvetelvis put it very well, opinion is great, but we are going off of facts and exp to better our hobby.
Less heartbreak stories that way.

gobygirl....I think your Pistol is a handsome one....exactly what I'm trying to get...3 in fact...the ones from F&S are "e-mail me when in stock and they are "tiny" not even 1/2 inch. .....I have the same at Pet Solutions, but I think theirs are a little bigger. Is there any that you know of on-line I can order from? I'm kind of new to this internet thing....too old to know all the tricks. lol.

And by the way....I keep THREE IRISH WOLFHOUNDS in my mobile home....it's all in the way your keep them....we also live on 2 acres of land....give it up already...

I agree about giving it up!!!!! :) Tangalong, I don't know of any good online places to order. My lfs, ocean treasures is awesome, the manager is very cool and he orders everything I want as soon as he can get his hands on it. You should ask your lfs if they have any pistols on their ordering list, if they do ask if they are willing to order it for you. Thanks for sticking in there with me about the nem in the nano issue...still think its just fine! :)

nice nem and very nice goby. i just pick up a spoted mandarin goby last week its a lil guy about 1 1/2". Removed~dc

my take on this whole nano-in-a-cube is this:

i've kept roses in a 12 gallon, a 24 gallon, and a 28 gallon--those AIO nanocubes and they did seemingly ok, seemed "happy" enough, and i was one who scoffed at the people who said "it shouldn't be done in a nano".

in fact, the 28 was an exclusive BTA-only tank, so I wasn't even worrying about them wandering/stinging/chemical warfare, etc.

but in the end, when I upgraded to my 56 gallon current tank, that was when i found out just how much happier they could be in a larger tank: they FULLY expanded, grew SO much faster! SPLIT more often! probably due to: better, more STABLE water quality, better lighting (hopefully nobody's putting their BTA under stock nanocube PC lighting here), and more room for them to move around to find their "happy spot", more rockwork and more options to find their favorite spot (as opposed to a more limited amount of rockwork/space in a nanocube)

so, yes, if you want to, it CAN be done (comparing their happiness to a dog's happiness living in a small place is a whole 'nother issue that i don't even want to get into), but to get a TRULY happy rose that's THRIVING, i'd definitely go larger on the tank ... and would i ever put a BTA in a nano again? NEVER AGAIN :) (i still have my nanocubes up and running right now! lol)

just my 2 cents ...

gogygirl...that's the problem with the LFS here...they can't get the stock they want....several have been ordering but no dice...some on line are good, but you have a minimum order and unless you are ordering to stock or expensive fish, it won't work. I use Fosters & Smith a lot but they are out of stock also. I want to try Pet Solutions...they seem really sound but they also are out of stock. I got one from F&S several weeks ago but never saw it after acclimation. lol. I didn't even think it was in the bag it was so small..Does your LFS do orders for anyone else? There just aren't the resources out here that Ca has. Lived there several places in my youth...loved it. Miss the ocean most of all.

Ya I feel so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place. I'm not sure if my lfs does orders for anyone else? But I will be there tomarrow so I will ask. they actually have some in stock! If they do I will let you know right away, I would be happy to help out a fellow reefer. By the way, I loved the comment about your 3 irish wolf hounds in your trailer.
And to Jamie1210 thanks for the concern! But my BTA was the size of a quater when I bought it two weeks ago and it has tripled in size. And my boyfriends nems split all the time, he did some research and nems sometimes split from stress and how can anyone ever be sure why their nem is splitting. So again thanks for advice. If it outgrows my tank I will give it a new home in my boyfriends 240g.

Thanks, gobygoddess714...sorry about calling you gobygirl...there is one here too..lol..I always loved Tangs so much but now my heart belongs to gobies !!!! Need to change my call name.lol

If your LFS would ship, that would be awesome. By the time my slow dial-up gets the e=mail about being in stock, they are already sold out...country is great...most of the time.
