Anybody kno whats up with KY reef societies website... Not that there was any activity at all, I was just wandering because I was going to post some stuff for sale there.. I always try to do it locally, especially with Just Fish closing down (waaay overpriced, but probably still the best lfs in lexington.. as condescending as he is, he does have a 2 degrees in fish biology and marine biology..) to try and support our local reefin society?.. if the websites not gonna work, i might make a new page for a college project... Any input?.. thanks Chris

Hopefully it hasn't bit the dust.
Best LFS - Tough one for what I collect (SPS) there really aren't that many, or ANY for that matter, options. 95% of my livestock has come from the RC selling forum and 5% from trades with locals, CincyReef folks, etc...
For equipment (higher end stuff) there are NO real options either. I typically order from Premium Aquatics in Indy becuase they deliver sooo darn quick for cheap, or I make the haul up to Columbus to PhishyBusiness.
We have many of what I'll call "All Purpose" LFS's with the usual suspects (fish / coral) wise, but since I'm an SPS snob :lol: I'm pretty much getting everything off this site.

Yeah I knew just fish was closing down a couple of months ago. I talk to tony yesterday and he said he wants to try to do a national live fish selling site. I too have noticed that the kyreefsociety.com site was down too. I have not heard anything about it. We only have two decent (if you want to call them that LFS's left Incredipet, and MVP).

I like the idea of making a new page. Sounds good keep me posted. The site is working but a lot of links are broken or not responding.
ya kurt I had a feeling you were havin trouble finding quality sps up there, wow i didnt kno that phishy business was out of columbus.. they have a couple good ones in cincinnati, nothing too big tho... but ya chris i feel so bad for tony, he's done alot for the reefin community in lexington, atleast for me, if i need a quick answer to any question about anything.. that man knows it and has a good way of explaining it.. i never heard about a national live fish website but i would give him my support.. you know when the last official day is??...

I stopped by there the other day, I think the last day is the 13th, he did say if the online thing takes off he might try to have store hours once a week. It is about the only place in town to get frags, hate to see them going out of business. I also talked to Vince at MVP and he is considering doing frags now, he has had loots of requests since Justfish is going out.
ya decent?.. ur awfully kind.. i refuse to go to mvp.. the head guy there told me taht it was impossible to have a saltwater tank without a skimmer.. and that old crazy lady.. oh my god ive never gotten so close to slappin a female... ive seen her discourage curious saltwater hopefuls numerous times.. just like bluntly say no dont go saltwater, youll regret it.. luckily i didnt listen to her.. and she called me an idiot and said my tank was not gonna have any success if i didnt use a damsel for cycling??. wth.. tahts cruel and being very territorial wouldnt do well with the tankmates i had planned for... i tried to tell her, rock, fish food, shrimp, hell her fake teeth could have probably kicked off an initial cycle... and that a 75 gallon was too small for a flame angel.. well ive been running a successful, skimerless reef with a flame angel for over a year.. ha man i didnt even mean to write a novel, but ya i still have to ask my professor if that would match to project criteria.. do u kno whos responsible for kyreefsociety.com?? i dont want to step on any toes or anything..

Back to the age old dilemna of trying to keep a high end SW fish/coral store profitable in a depressed economy with a limited population of reefers spread out across the state. Running an LFS like that would be a tall order around here. I give those trying credit where credit is due.

I agree MVP is not my place of choice. Nor is incredipet or the other online fish store in lexington. Vince is a funny guy (i.e. idiot) when it comes to keeping saltwater fish. He even has his own tank maintenance section which scares the H$%# out of me. Any ways I don't know the contact person for kyreefsociety.com but they do have a contact page. I mean if you are not stealing the site and concept then you should be fine. It's not against the law or policies of copyright.

I agree with you but you can't keep these fish and expect to sell them at a 200%-300% mark up and have a sale every once in a blue moon.

I agree, Vince and his wife are both idiots when it comes to saltwater, but there is not much else to choose from. I would not let his "Tank Maintenance" anywhere near my tank.

He was going to help me move a tank a while back because of a flood in my basement in April and I decided to go with aquadec instead because of his be reputation. I wish we had a reefing club here locally
Yeah, I think we all agree that Vince and his old lady are not makin this any easier for us with their lack of. everything.. when he told me he also maintained tanks, i was thinkin for who??.. or is that something u just say to people.. maybe i should start sayin that too.. ha.. ya where credit is due.. but credits not do to hourly associates, who sell to a much bigger audience(dogs, birds, cats...) tony was the best here in lex and i hate to see it happen..
ya about the site.. after getting permission from school, im really not trying to change the name of the site.. id rather just take it over, and start from scratch.. i can get .ws sites for free. maybe itll be kyreefsociety.ws.. ill keep u posted when i figure somethin out.. but ya we dont have anywhere to go for frags and stuff now.. it be nice to have a local club that met for swaps and stuff.. im sure that we all have a bunch of extra equipment, maybe we could all throw in on a big frag tank kept somewhere in agreeance.. i kno i could donate some frags, im sure i could find some others willin to as well.. and that'll be our exclusive place where we could buy frags locally..
