I have Red Bugs, Please Help.

Where's The Reef?
Today I noticed on one of Acro's that there were a bunch of tiny orange/red little bugs crawling around. Then I noticed that they are on all my colonies, Im not shocked, I just got a bunch of new frags, which I dipped in Seachem Coral Dip.So I guess I need to know how I kill these little rascals?

Look at the stickies in this forum, specifically for pest treatment of red bugs using the dog medication interceptor. You are going to have to go to a vet in order to get this medication, then follow the instructions to dose your tank.

Thanks a bunch, I was just reading about interceptor on reeftools.Looks like I have my work cut out for me!

I'll just have to call around, there are around 8 vets within an hour of me.I sure hope attleast 1 of them has some.

Interceptor I think is pretty well accepted as the best whole system treatment. I did my first treatment 6 days ago, treatment 2 is tomorrow. I'll let you know!

On a related note, I printed off some pictures and info to take into my vet, which helped in getting a prescription.

Bayer dips worked for me. Granted, it was a small frag, but I haven't seen a redbug since. Here is what they looked like on that frag.....

Are you supposed to do your usual weekly water changes in the 3 week period it takes to treat 3 times?

I don't know...wouldnt dipping the coral in the Bayer insecticide only kill the Red Bugs on the coral?Wouldn't there still be Red Bugs in the system?

That is indeed true - why most people recommend a whole tank treatment with interceptor.

Reef 264, sorry to hear about the redbugs, hope you eradicate them really soon.

Thank you for the positive words my friend, I need them.

Thank you for the well wishes CFloor!

In a related note, I ordered some Interceptor, the Large Dog Tablets, not the chewable beefy ones, the regular kind.I hope it gets here quick. How Long does it take for Red Bugs to hurt an Acro to any bad extent?

Red bugs are more of an irritant as I understand it. You can live with them.....kind of like herpes:hmm1::lol2:
