what i was scared of algae out break and brown dust on sand bed and the hight lr has green on them. How to get ridd of this mess.

In my experience having a protein skimmer that is rated for tank that is slightly larger than the one you have in combination with changing your lights on a regular schedule helped get rid of the algae and diatom bloom. Of course, not overfeeding you tank is also a big component of limiting algae growth.

ok will do that do i need more of a cleanup crew in the mean time to get rid of the algae i have 10 snails, 15-20 blue hermits, 1 red hermit, 1 coral banded shrimp riggt now for my 30g. What should i get?

If it's a new tank, it will go away with time, good husbandry and a clean up crew. You just have to wait it out.

it is a new tank and how long should i run my lights for just go new ones 6 days ago t5 double 65 watt one sunpaq dual day 6,700k+10,00ok and a dual sunpaq actinic 420nm+460nm

You might, if you can, set up a refugium: that will outcompete the algae. You can also try the 3-day no-lights period, followed by a day of actinic only. Repeated every 4-6 weeks, this has a good success rate. Just test your water often during this period to be sure you don't have a problem, and run phosban: if the algae dies, you want something to nab the phosphate out of the water as it dies.

how do i set up a refugium and what is it and what does it do. I hear that word alot and not quite sure if i know what its is exactly

It's an area, usually a compartment in the sump (but may be HOB or even in tank) that contains macroalgae for nutrient export. With no feeding pressures, it allows pods to flourish.

ok i do not have a sup but i did order a Coralife Needle Wheel and Venturi Super Skimmer 65 would that be good enough?

how long has the tank been cycling--it might be time for a water change.
About the skimmer---one of the best pieces of filtration equipment to invest in.

in a new tank this is always common. first the brown alage, next hair, then last canyo. if you keep your nitrates and phosphates down to 0 then it will go away sooner. but everyone gets them in a new tank.

BTW your lights arn't T5's they are regular PC's

ok how long should i be runnin them for

if your talking about the lights that is up to you. you can try the 3 days no light trick and see if that helps. but all the things mentioned here will help control it but time and good maintance will only rid it.

Once you get rid of the nuisance alage you can return to normal light cycle. I run my actinics for 12hrs and daylight for 10hrs a day and have no problems. A skimmer is really important in reef tanks especially smaller ones.

yeah i got ordered the Coralife Needle Wheel and Venturi Super Skimmer 65 off ebay should be here on wed its just a hanging back one
