I know why True Orange Envy's cost so much...

So my question is which of the two polyps is bam bam's? is one bam bam red and one bam bam orange?

they are definetly two different types, the mat's dont' connect. In lower lighting the orange ones seem to take over, but in high light the reddish ones dominate.

Have you tried seperating them yet?
I would, you don't want to lose either colony, those are nice!
Maybe you should send me some, just in case...;)

ive got hundreds of both, on many different rocks, in three different tanks, so im pretty well insured against a loss. ive had them both for 2+ years, they came in on the same rock from the wild. And while one or the other may crowd out here and there, they seem to balance out long term.

Hello everyone,

I know there has been talk about 'Envy Oranges' lately... some reefers even posting some pretty rotten things lol. I was not going to post anything because it seems like all people due is argue and flame which I refuse to participate in; but since the topic is now up and I can see people want to hear some answers...

The truth is 'Envy Oranges' Do not grow... I always compare their growth rate to that of frozen molases!! It is not only I that has experienced this (Under very variable growing conditions I might add), but those that have them, also state the same "They don't grow, whats going on?!" These are not novice... some well known reefers like Maximus.

But ofcource, there will always be those who say that's just a claim to inflate the price... Don't just take my word for it... how many people do you see with 'Envy Oranges' out there? I have no reason to BS a story behind 'Envy Oranges' Reefenvy, is not my Job... it's just a hobby. As I told Maximus, I don't sell envy's so expensive to make some extra cash, If that was the case I'd have more yellow labradors and be a full time breeder. My pair is producing 5-10 puppies per litter at $400-800 per puppy selling like hotcakes.

I wish I could sell 'Envy Oranges' for $30 bux a pop but they just don't grow *Sigh*

Perhaps they are an alien species like in "Little Shops of Horror" ha ha, although very dboutful!

Hey Juan-Carlos,
If they grow that slow, why sell them at all?

No offence, but your comments don't justify the ethical selling of a coral for outrageous prices. Especially since you say "it's just a hobby".

If you really believe in this hobby, then share your animals so everyone can help keep this slow growing species alive.
Try to be reasonable, not gouge.

Because, as far as I'm concerned, anyone that gouges prices is in it for one thing. :bounce3:

I think we all know that is not the case when it comes to you, right?;)

my opinion on the matter is simple - all things will grow given the right conditions. i have experience with a lot of dif corals but SPS's are the easiest example i can give you. i have had maricultures and wilds that just sit stagnent for many many months then all at once they take off and grow like crazy. many people believe that acclimation is a 20 minute process that occures when you put a coral in your tank but that is in no way correct. when a coral comes from the ocean it can take many months for it to adapt to water chem/lighting of a tank environment. of course some very adaptable types acclimate more quickly - and these become common frags everyone has and shares. i do not have any orange envies so i cannot speak from direct experience with this morph - but someone will find the right conditions for them and after a few generations removed from the ocean they will grow as well as any
JMO of course

I don't think they are any more attractive than rpe's, and certainly not worth the ridiculous price of 500 per polyp.

Has anyone who has the tried feeding them? That likely will increase their growth rate, but maybe that is not what they are looking for.

I've always loved them because of the contrast, but agree that $500/polyp is (more than) a bit much for me. I have been lucky enough to trade for my other pricy zoas. Maybe one of these days I'll luck out with some Envy Orange trade... I fell in love with Juan Carlos's old avatar... The RPE's I have shouted to me from across the room just because of the neon green slit mouth (could be seen across the room:)). Thus began an addiction to protopaly's and PE's:D.
