I lost my clam but foot still attached???

I had this clam for over a year and a few days ago decided to move on to heaven. I'm still puzzle as the for the reason why it did but I'm more puzzle as when I moved the shell I found the foot still attached to the rock underneath, I softly try pulling it but is really attach so I let go. Anyone seen this before? All of my parameters are where they should and the only change was an addition of a few corals frags. Here is a pic of it.

the byssal threads are a glandular secretion that the clam puts out and these threads are what hold the clam down. they are not living tissue (think of them like hair) and they will remain stuck there
