I need a fish trap...

About a week ago I purchased a pygmy angelfish and woke up this morning to it take nice sized bites out of my most prized zoanthids. Before I tear down my tank I was wondering if anyone had a small fish trap lying around that I could borrow. I currrently have a net in the tank trying to get the angelfish used to it but in my small tank I think using a trap or tearing the tank down is my last option. Thanks

I built one that was modelled after this (I was forwareded a thread from www.reef-visoins.com when I needed trap):

"It's 10 by 6 by 6 with a door that will slide down. The vertical tube is for introducing the bait! The door is held open by a pin attached to fishing line"(Cracker @ reef-visions)

You simply pull the line to cause the pin to release and the door will close. I attatched weights to the bottom of my door to make it close faster. Works every time. I also drilled holes all over mine so that it can be submegered easily and fish can live in it for a while. Sometimes takes up to a couple hours for the fish you want to enter the trap all alone. Once it in there, you can leave it there for a few days if need be until you can take it to the LFS.

hey, i built the same exact thing! except to close mine, i turn off one of my powerheads that are forcing it to stay open. works like a charm.

i think making a trap is the best thing you can do to catching any of your fish in the tank, with the least amt of stress on your part as well as the fish.

you can borrow mine if you want.

im in margate, fl though might be a bit of a drive for you.

I found the 2L plastic soda bottle one to be quite useful. I've had to make a couple in the past years in emergency situations, since I don't own an actual "trap." You just cut the top portion off of the bottle, then flip it inside out into the bottom portion. If the opening is too small for the fish, you can cut it bigger also. I usually hold the 2 pieces together with fishing line, which also serves as a retrieval device. The nice thing is that you don't have to babysit it, I have set it at night and awakened the next morning to greet my newly trapped menace.
