hello guys and gals,
I have a yellow watchman goby that I am having a problem with transfering him to my display tank.ok,the first attempt to transfer him ended up with him in my sump.the little guy would not settle down on the bottom of the tank,he would swim till he would get exausted and end up near my powerheads or getting sucked down the overflow,I retrieved him from the sump and put him back in the 10 gal qt and he would sit on the bottom and he does fine in the qt,he eats ,no labored breathing.
in the meantime I built a cover for my overflow that has screen to cover the slots.so yesterday evening after the lights went out I put him back in my display tank, again he would stay at the top,so I turned out the lights in the room and went to bed, about ten minutes went by,I couldnt stop worrying about him so I went back to check on him and noticed he was dangerously close to one of the powerheads,so I unplugged it,went back to bed, about ten minutes later I was up again this time I found him sucked up inside the other powerhead.I immediately unplugged it and had to tap the powerhead on the glass to get him to drop out the bottom.he sank to the bottom all crinkled up,I just knew he was dead,I watched him for a minute and noticed he was barely breathing,so I scouped him out of the tank and dropped him back in the qt.and I went to bed very upset lastnight.I just new he would be a floater this morning.
well I got up to go to work and the first thing I did was check to see if he was still alive, and I couldnt believe my eyes he was sitting on the bottom of the qt tank just chilling,I dropped a few flakes of food in to see what he would do,and when a piece would float near him he would dart towards it and eat it.so as of now I still have one lucky little fish, but I am lost as to what I can do to get him in my display tank and keep him alive.
first off my display tank is a very young 75gal reef tank with about 20lbs of live rock and a dozen frags of various lps,and softies.I have no fish in the tank, just inverts,1 tiger pistol shrimp,2 peppermint shrimps,2 emerald crabs, and ten small blue leg hermits,9 nassarus snails,6 turbo snails.
so I dont understand why he wont go to the bottom and find a hole to chill in,nothing has bothered him.and I cant turn off both powerheads the loss of flow would not be good for the corals.I fear this guy is going to become a permanent resident of my 10 gal qt tank.
so does anyone have any ideas? I have read a few post here and there where people have had similar issues with these guys, but not much more than that.
thanks for any suggestions ,
mike
