I need some Carpet pros in here... PICS/Questions??

If that were my anemone, I'd dig a hole under a rock and stick the anemone's foot in it.

I did that when I first put it in... Dug down in the sand right under the rocks in the corner and set him down in the hole. It just won't "dig" in?! This is how it was when I bought it so either its got a problem or its just how it is....:twitch:

So would you dig, stick it in and then push sand around his foot?

Yes. I'd do what ever it takes to conceal the foot.

BTW. That toadstool is unbelievable!:eek1:

Well, I'll get the shovel out tomorrow and dig till I hit glass!! :fun2:
I don't want my $150 Carpet Anemone to die in my tank...

Leathers I can do...Anemone's?? Obviously not so much..

Well, I came in to my office early this morning and the Anemone looked bad. The stomach was inverted and he was very small.
I instantly got in the tank and pulled him up to the top and as I did the stomach went back in?
So I dug out under the rocks down to the glass and set him down in it, piled the sand around as good as I could. He looks 10x's better than when I came in but I'm still thinkin this is bad.

He's still Very sticky?!?

I dug him in really good and then put a rock in front of him just to change it up a bit. He has been doing "better" I guess, no stomach stickin out and has seemed to attached as far as I can tell, hard to see but when hes not attached he usually floats out a little and I can see his foot.

Colors haven't changed, I've increased the lighting a bit and I have done two 15 gallon water changes and will do another one tonight.

He's hangin in there so maybe if I keep doing what I'm doing he'll pull out of it!?!

Right now he is sunk back in the tunnel I created about half way which I think is a good sign. Before he would just kinda float around and then turn halfway over and just didn't look right.

OK.. Spoke too soon. He just puffed back out of the tunnel and his stomach was inverted. Then, 10 mins. later, the stomach was back in!?!?

What is going on?

I really hope that I am wrong, but it seems like it is doing the death spiral that I have experienced in the past.

Can go from looking great one minute and looking awful the next.

These shots occurred over one evening, about a total of 3 hours.

And then finally the next night...

Well, his stomach isn't out that much but basically, that looks like whats he starting to do.
I wonder if I should bag it up and take it back to the pet store?? I'm going there tomorrow. I called them but they said it is just probably acclimating....

A slightly open mouth isn't uncommon for a newly introduced Haddoni, but for the stomach to invert, that isn't normal at all. I received a new one about 2 weeks ago, and its stomach has never inverted. In fact, all the times I have had a NEW Haddoni invert its stomach, it didn't make it.

Man, your not paintin a pretty picture! :sad2:
I'm gonna keep an eye on him and test the water all the time. He looked worse the other day but who knows.

Alright...
Just called and talked to the store. They said this is "normal" for this type of Carpet. He said it wasn't a Gigantea or the Haddoni but a different name (forgot) that is a little finicky and will do this stuff off and on!?!?!?

He also said that if it does die he will take care of me so don't worry. I've spent about $1600 there in the last month and a half so I would think they'll stand behind it.

The other type of hosting "carpet" is an S. mertensii, and that isn't what you have. It is an S. Haddoni. And it isn't normal at all for it to be doing this.

But, at least they said that they would take care of you if it doesn't make it. For now, I would just keep an eye on it, do a water change and run some fresh carbon.

I Was running new carbon in my reactor but I stopped 2 days ago.... I was trying to rule out reasons for the way its acting. So guess I will crank it up tomorrow.
On some things, Most things, this reef store seems to know their stuff but then some times I'm just not sure where they're coming from....

:rollface::lol: I'm sorry, but you just have to laugh at some of the stuff people at the LFS will say.

You have a haddoni. It's not some different kind with strange behavioral patterns. Like Todd said, there are only three hosting carpets. Haddoni, gigantea, and mertensii, unless you consider adhaesivum to be a carpet as well. The anemone in your pic's is very easy to ID. There is absolutely no doubt that you have a haddoni. "Most" people that work at a LFS will not know one carpet anemone from another. The guy is probably trying to do his best to keep you happy, but I wouldn't take advice from him. He obviously doesn't know anemones, or he's being untruthful with you on purpose.

Well, Id like to think he's just misinformed.... Surely he wouldn't lie to me!:twitch:

Haddoni it is! Now if I can get him feelin good I will be happy... Its nice that he'll cover the price but I don't want it to die.
