I Need To Add An Angel (Experienced Angel Nuts Only)

I am a huge fan of the C. Melanosoma.

+1 on that! Or the blue spot, which is similar but a little more colorful. I have two now. These are plucky, active, uncommon, subtly beautiful fish that don't get huge (6 inches, I think, mine are smaller).

I would definitely do a pair of RSR's. With 500g, you could also do a trio of false personifers.

At least 7" and probably bigger since that length is growth in an aquarium.

Looks like I've got quite a bit of thinkin' to do. Never considered adding pairs or harems before. Also, I never realized just how many Angels prefer cooler (below my 78F) water. If I had to choose right now...and, man, I'm glad I don't..., I'd probably go with another RSR PLUS a pair of smaller something else. Question about Genicanthus btw: If one purchases two females, is it a guarantee that one will eventually become a male or is it wiser to purchase a sexed pair to begin with?

Oh, and I'd still appreciate someone's first hand take on Scribbled Angels. Thanks.

If the boards are an indication, it can be done both ways successfully: i.e. a full adult male/female pair or a pair/trio of females (usually getting one larger than the other(s)). Enough people have bought full adult pairs that I think you would be ok just watching DD for the next pair of zebra/wantanabe/swallowtail that looks good. Im not sure which is cheaper or more likely to result in a male with full coloration.

Gonna also second the bluespotted angel - a subtle beauty (the tiny blue dots kind of shimmer as the fish turns in the light) and its not gonna clear 8" like some of the others.

But yes, with a tank that size and that array of pretty peaceful fish, you have pretty much every option available to you other than the cooler asian water angels.

Again, all of your help and advice is greatly appreciated. Believe it or not, I spent quite a bit of time yesterday in front of the tank with my copy of Debelius' 'Angelfish', trying to envision as many different scenarios with as many different suitable Angels as I could. The result? Even more confusion than I began with :). A good problem to have though given so many apparent choices.

One issue that cropped up is that I may not have quite as much room to spare as some of you think I do. So I included a recent grab shot of the tank:

Though the tank is still young, there is obviously plenty of swimming/growing room for the fish and corals. What may not be so obvious from the shot are the many spaces around and in between the rockwork. There are 4 separate 'islands' here that overlap, giving the appearance of one long structure. Plenty of dash holes within them too.

Now my fish list:

17 (or so) Bimaculatus Anthias 1"-4"
5 Bartletts Anthias 1"-4"
2 Borbonius Anthias 2" & 3"
1 Olive Anthias 3"
3 Green Chromis 2"-3"
2 Flame Hawks 1" & 2"
1 Purple Tang 4 1/2"
1 Striatus Bristletooth Tang 5"
1 Copperband Butterfly 4 1/2"
1 Mystery Wrasse 4"

So I guess my question this time isn't which Angel but what size and/or how many. Shoulda done this in the beginning, therefore my apologies to those who've already responded if it causes you to rethink things.
