I'm a downdraft guy so no opinion here. The set and forget factor of dd is IMO the best.

External Needle wheel should be just as set and forget as downdraft I believe. Maybe even more so since you never have to clean out those bioballs in the mixing lines?

My needle wheel is slowly decomposing, maybe from cavitation?...its a pricey thing to replace it. Id rather use something less dependent than a needle wheel with a particular manufacturers pump. Its also extremely water level sensitive..way to hard to adjust.

this are my choices

Manny, I heard great things about #3 but it has a hefty price tag in a skimmer I look for an efficient simple design with good quality materials I am a big fan of Deltec.

well i am building one just like it with out the pump i just will add 2 sedras or the same pumps of the deltec if i make a Nettle wheel i tink it will worck beter with tow pumps

just the velvet background makes it look expensive lol!

id personally try 2 aquabees recirculating and build it very similar to a deltec.

im biased for needlewheels, only because of the power savings.

Manny, i would first look into what your priorities are. Save electrcity? Small footprint in order to fit in a specific space? Intitial cost? Operating cost? Most efficient? Noise level? Ease of maintance?

I think when you answer the above questions your anser will be pretty clear.

To answer your Aquabee question, DAS uses an identical pump to the Aquabee 2000/1 that H&S and Deltec skimmers use but A LOT cheaper. Look for DAS pumps on Petorama!

Hope this helps, JOHNNY
