I need your opinions on imported (Indonesia) ocean cultured frags

I posted some growth pictures before. I think good flow is important, I just think my open space in my tank allow my flow to work and work well. The growth I get is insane lately. My milli just took off. It is a bright pink and it is branching out hardcore. It's nice to look up and say wow, what a difference.

Sorry to hijack but has anyone heard of acro eating flatworms coming in on aquacultured from bali? I talked to a distributor that mentioned that was where they were coming from. Don't know if this is accurate or not.

IMO, unless distributors carefully monitor and treat pests of all coral shipments, it's very difficult to pinpoint the origin of pests due to high turn over rates and cross contamination. Unless, distributors have specific storage tanks for each origin.

when i am talking about pests i mean aiptasia....stinging hydroids....bad algaes and i have noticed what looks like rust on the bottom of some bases. along these lines some frags from vanuatu were coming in with the coral secured by wire ties and a wire right through the middle of the frag (like a post). i just do not trust what can be on or in those bases so i remove mine from the base and secure it to the rock work.

Yeah, the Bali stuff is pretty nice. I agree with mummra100769, you should cut off the base to be safe.
On another note, is anyone impressed with these Tonga mariculture that are coming in?
I saw a few at a LFS and online, and the sales guy was really trying to push some on me. Just wasn't impressed, seemed kinda ordinary. JMO

i think those are from tropical oasis right? i thought the owner frank set up a mariculture station there (tonga). i have seen them also and they are kinda ordinary.

I dont know whose they are. They are going to have to bring more to the table to compete with Bali, Fiji and SI

bali specimens are generally easier to care for IMHO. I never have any luck with stuff from fiji, they'll eventually turn brown on me for some reason that i still yet to know. i think its temp. Anyhow, i'm digressing here...

aquacultured are just frags of frags of frags that have been grown out right?

Yes, aquacultured means it's been grown for generations in tanks. Maricultured means it's been grown out in the ocean.

The indo sps representing about 50% of my collection are all doing well whether they be maricultured or wild ones ..... from what I observed, very often its the way they were handled and shipped ... thus, I do not purchase anything at all when I notice a high percentage of DOA when the stocks just arrive at the farm.

For the wild ones, I esp like to collect montis as the colonies tend to be more natural ... the indos also tend to be faster growers compared to the Fuji /tonga ones but the colours are much more vivid for the Fuji/ tonga ones (with exception for millis from indo). And based on my observation, where the nicest sps are found originate from around Sulawesi island.
